Steve Stoll is a name I don't often see on this list. His recent NovaMute full-length The Blunted Boy Wonder received good reviews in the press - I'd appreciate some personal insights. I've got his 97 sm:)e release "Damn Analog Technology", have never heard Pacemaker, and am curious about the new one. So : does this dude cook, or, erm, one too many bluntz? I *

i think it's the best thing to come across by steve stoll, it's less straight forward as usual. but to be honest i didn't buy 'cause i found it a bit too average. but it's no disinvestment to spend your money on this. ____________________________________ forcefield | mindless entertainment http://www.sonik.demon.nl/forcefield

Here is a review I wrote for a local paper: Steve Stoll The Blunted Boy Wonder Novamute Repetition is a natural part of music but it plays a much more dominant role in techno. It is this repetition that can lull you into a zone and make you move your feet. The trick is to make music that can encompass this without becoming redundant. Steve Stoll has managed to do this while also giving you something to ponder. His music propels you forward and makes you open your eyes. There is a lot going on here; on the most basic level you have a driving beat but, backing that is a collage of percussion and synth work. These heavy rhythms are sequenced and looped to create a hypnotizing effect. Perhaps it is the way the sounds seem to always be changing while remaing the same that the repetition doesn't grow stale. Stoll heralds from New York and this fact is evident in the way that Stoll shapes classic Detroit techno into something new. If he is to be believed, this is the sound of New York's club culture at three in the morning. That is not to say that this is just a CD for people who like to groove. It is a CD for anyone who wants to get lost in the beat. -daniel

hey, i just picked up the single for "model t" due to the cari lekebusch and aux88 remixes, and i rather like the original to boot (the first bside, "the circuit", is awesome). great, stompin', berlin-y tech-house kinda stuffs. has someone heard the album, and if so, would they care to let me know how it is? thanks. * #### a disturbance in a system. #### laerm. @voicenet.com ##:# i nostri sogni sono sempre presenti

If by 'the album' you mean The Blunted Boy Wonder, off which Model T comes - yes, I've got it - more of the same right the way through. Very minimal and works best thrown in between some more melodic stuff... Colour Blind, the final track, is my fave; all of it is really good and solid repetitive textured beats with fine nouances and variations. If that's your bag, this is for you, although it's not the kind of thing to listen through from start to finish in one sitting. I *
