Are you listening at 45rpm? I rekon this is the intended speed judging by the pitch of some of the percussion and samples and the general feel.

Jega is NOT producing jungle if what is on this 12" is what you are referring to. A couple of the tracks have mashed up breakbeats but I suppose no-one can categorize this sort of music. I'm sorry but it seems like this record is being wrongly pigeon-holed and then criticised for not being 'good' enough at a particular musical style that I don't think it intended to be in the first place. Well at least I don't think it was intended to be 'jungle' but have some influences possibly from jungle. But isn't most music these days influenced by jungle? Has anyone heard any of Jean michel Jarre's stuff recently?

As is usually the case, I've read a message and just spilled out my thoughts as a reaction to it, so please don't take anything personally. The bottom line to what I am saying is don't get put off buying this Jega release if you like Jega. Personally I was blown away by the record. If you liked the 2nd tracks on each side of Plaid's Android ep on Clear then I rekon you'll like Jega's Type Xero. Also it's limited so you may not be able to pick it up later. Other IDM recommendations: Wagon Christ - Power of Love Again I'm being blown away by a record. Brilliant Vibert breakbeaty antics with those dreamy melodies that he's so good at. AFX - Analogue Bubblebath 3 (CD with 13 tracks for a tenner) If you haven't got this and you like AFX then do yourself a favour as soon as possible. Classic AFX. Brothom States - Kobn Tich Ey (Available at ftp.scene.org/pub/music/artists/dune/mp3/kobn-tich-ey/) Someone on IDM posted the address and as part of my excitement from discovering mp3land I downloaded this, and it's brilliant. Well for free you can't really complain, but this stuff really gets me going. Very influenced by Autechre. Imagine sublime melodies with really crunchy distorted explicit rhythms and you'll be close to some of thier tracks. There's also a 45 minute live show by them. Does anyone have any info on this group?

Of course you can...call it Drum'n'Bass, call it Drill'n'Bass...let's called it Breakbeat, because that's what it is. Breakbeat music stops being interesting where the producers are only interested in showing their skills of chopping and cutting the breaks, leaving behind the idea of producing a track.

I absolutely *loved* Dylan's earlier Breakbeat Tracks (his *first* Skam E.P., for instance). His new breakbeat stuff is just weak in my opinion...

Hey, don't worry about that!

I'm pretty sure that all the tracks will be on his labum anyway. But this is just a speculation.. Greetings from Berlin, Thaddi NP: BEEFCAKE - Spontaneous Human Combustion
