News from the fine folks at Obliq about an upcoming release... --- Obliq Recordings was formed in 1996 after discovering a void in the American Independent record label scene for experimental non-dance oriented electronics. Since then, Obliq has found a niche for melodic, deconstructed beat overtures. Obliq's releases range from blissful ambient washes to downtempo disjunct grooves. Obliq Recordings operates from Rural Colorado, USA. Obliq Recordings has seven releases to date. The first two releases were CD-R limited and are out of print. The first compilation was "Wired Spaces" featuring early Multicast and Freq Modif material. The second Obliq release was a Live Multicast recording, "Live at I.C.A. 1997". In 1998 Obliq released a compilation CD with tracks from Multicast, Freq Modif, Ted Sturgeon, devslashnull, and Finder. These CDs were individually numbered to 1000 with hand silk screened, glow in the dark covers. Reviews of the CD were included on the IDM listserver, Feedback Monitor, The Underground Hacker's Digest and UK's Headspin Magazine. The next release was Obliq's first limited vinyl release, the Multicast 12" EP. This featured 4 tracks including an aii Record's Accelera Deck remix. The covers were hand silk screened on various colored paper stock. The 12" was reviewed in Berlin's DeBug magzine. Multicast also produced a video for "Hall of the Inverted Mushrooms". Teaming up with the Iron Feather Journal, Obliq released another Multicast EP 10" with issue #17 of the Journal. Included on this 3 track single was a Pitchcadet Record's m-tec remix. Reviews appeared in DeBug, Grooves, XLR8R, and CMJ Monthly magazines. The EP made the German magazine Raveline's Top 10 in December at #6. Obliq Recording's current release is a Multicast limited 7" single packaged inside a retro 8" floppy diskette. The release contains some of Multicast's best work to date. Obliq artists also have appeared on several compilations. Multicast and Freq Modif appear on the Iron Feather Journal #16 Choonz & Warez, Pitchcadet and aii Records Cadaract Beats compilation, KVCU Radio 1190 double CD compilation, and I.C.A.?s Math, Deepspace and Noizy1 compilations. Obliq is distributed by Hardwax in Europe, exclusive UK by Baked Goods, Phonics in Canada/US, and Iron Feather Distro, along with many mail order and record stores internationally. After I forwarded that press release to the list, I realized that I snipped the top part that mationed the new release specifically (although the info was also buried in the text of the press sheet). D'oh. Anyway - the upcoming release in a 3-track Multicast 7" EP, due out on April 12th. Watch for it.
