okay...this is strange...went looking for 'bradleys beats' late last year when rephlex reissued it...couldn't find a copy anywhere, and then BANGGGG!!! out pops a promo copy from the shelves!! got it home, played it...hhhmmmm it's o.k....then, found an actual release the following week...bought that as well, don't know why...and to my horro, it seems the last track on the promo is different to that on the actual release...any explanations?....grant, what's going on...have i developed the memory of a goldfish and the two are the same and i mistakenly pressed the 33/45 button accidentaly???.... replies greatfully recieved as per usual....oh, by the way... it's in a black sleeve, with a SMALL union-jackless label...nice. paul

Think you must have done. I got the promo but was forced to buy the full tracing-paper sleeve with oversize Rephlex flag label just because, well, it looked damn hot. Both sides play at 45 and both versions are the same on my copies. Unless you have some rarer version? This is an old topic for sure, but I've been listening to my Brad Stryder records a bunch lately & was struck with a question. At the Rephlex web page, in the discography section, it says under "Bradley's Beat" the following: "there are two commercial versions with different tracks as 'part two'." I've managed to get both commercial versions &, true enough, there are different songs on the second side, but does stating that there are 2 "commercial" versions imply that there are even more versions, non-"commercial" versions, like promos or something like that? Anyone know? Marc Poirier

The real question is: What's the difference between the two 12s? Is the artwork any different, basically how do you tell them apart? And is one more difficult to get than the other? -- Ben Coffer http://www.hybridgame.demon.co.uk/

I dunno, but speaking of conclusion jumping.. here's a crazy theory on why RDJ is re-releasing all of his old Rephlex material.. This is just some wild random thought.. and doesn't have much factual basis, well some.. Lately after the release of Come to Daddy, Richard D. James has said that he is no longer interested in making music.. true he said this many times before, but this time he seemed to be a little more serious about it, saying that it took way too much of his time up, etc.. That was in some thing someone posted to here a while ago about it being in some article.. but anyway.. suddenly RDJ is re-releasing all his old records.. First AB3, then AB4, then the Joyrex's.. the only thing that's left to re-release is Q-Chastic right? at least that's the only record left on Rephlex, besides the AB5 promo.. Anyhow my thought on this is that what if he is doing this in order to keep the fans at bay with something to buy, keep them excited by repressing hard to get stuff.. after all, on Warp, he MUST release a new album, it's under contract.. but he IS rephlex, so he can basically do whatever the fuck he wants.. ..and then once his Warp contract runs out he might stop making music or so.. Just a random thought.. and the day that Q-Chastic gets re-released will be the new judgement day :) Since the question to the existance of it will finally be answered heh. I was telling this to someone in IRC about Q-Chastic and he said he thought the same exact thing.. but I dunno what to think about it still, coz my best mate says that he has seen it and heard it, and that it's a 2x10" white label, that just says cat 002 on it.. and then someone else told me his friend had it, and that it was a 2x7" orange coloured vinyl. So who's telling the truth? I would trust my mate more than some guy who just floated in #aphextwin. and my mate was also able to identify the track "Q-Chastic" as being the first track on Q-Chastic EP without ever having heard the track before.. I described it to him :) __ __\ \ / /_\ \ \_____/ "..in whatever you do, if you can't break new ground, what's the point?" - James Cameron

I don't know whether one is more difficult to get than the other but I can tell you that they look identical, making it a serious bitch to get both. I was lucky enough to find my second copy in a DJ-type store with turntables for listening because the only way you can tell them apart is by hearing them. Marc Poirier

Well then do me a favor and describe how they each sound different. How can I tell them apart? I mean first I guess I gotta find the other one, no? Geez, sometimes I hate Rephlex's gimicks. ALl I can say is that the Brad S I have is str8 up 4ondeFloor which I prefer to play at 33 1/3 tho its obvious to be played at 45. SO they all look identical with that Green side/Union Jack side thing. Well did they all come with that poster? Mine did not, is this a way to tell the difference? gilly ps: Too all those monkeys bitching about Kraftwerk being old and whatnot, screw you. I was 8/9years old when I bought Tour de France, it was the best break dancin' tune. 15+ years later, I'm finally big enough to see 'em in concert. Who cares if they played a bunch of old tunes, they made music thats more important than you ever will/could! -- Gilly waxjuhnkeypornaddict (602) 461-0975 galaxey@earthlink.net **hate makes the world go round** "drugs techno-lise the brain"- J.G. One is 3 & a half minutes & the other is almost 6. The short one has a pounding, constant bass drum with sort of woogly, spooky melodies. The long one is really drummy & sounds quite similar to the last track on "Bradley's Robot," although I like it much more than the "Robot" one.

tell the difference? No. The poster came with "Bradley's Robot," not "Bradley's Beat." Marc Poirier
