A local venue is advertising a show featuring Spring Heel Jack and the Amazing Royal Crowns in mid-June. This line-up sounds rather dubious. Does anyone know about a Spring Heel Jack U.S. tour? Thanks.

More likely, this is Spring Heeled Jack, a different band which, I gather, sound more in line with an ARC sound than Spring Heel Jack do. -- Adam J Weitzman "You know, there's so many different ways NewsEdge Corporation to lose your mind, and rock'n'roll is http://www.newsedge.com just one of them." http://www.newspage.com - Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist

Indeed there is at present a lawsuit over the name of the two bands in question. "Spring Heel Jack" and "Spring Heeled Jack". The latter being a ska-pop band from cali.

That's really funny. There used to be all sorts of ska-punk folks posting on the old Spring Heel Jack website because they went to the wrong place. Anyone know which group brought up the lawsuit?

It's Spring Heeled Jack. They sued Spring Heel Jack to force a name change & won. Does anyone know what Spring Heel Jack will be changing their name to?

But do keep an eye out for the jungle duo's tour with Lee Scratch Perry and Mad Professor (he's on the board for Perry). I would have gone if the show was cheaper... But SHJ are pretty awful IMO. I saw them spin once for free, and it was boring, and 68 million shades is not much to speak of. Go for the dub, not the pseudo dub. Sam

I'd have to agree. "The Sea Lettuce" was an excellent piece at it's time, and still sounds different today. "Lee Perry still sounds wicked too. But at the time I wasn't listening to much drum-n-bass and didn't have much to compare it to. Over the last 2 years I have been, and both "68 Million Shades" and "Busy Curious Thirsty" sound lame and derivative. The tracks are overly repetitive and also not half as clever with dynamics or the deconstruction of breaks as the stuff coming out of labels like Droppin Science, Prototype, Juice, Hard Leaders, Tech Itch, Moving Shadow, Reinforced, No U Turn, Formation, V, Urban Takeover and many more too numerous to mention. That said check out the tour for Lee Perry and Mad Professor. That sounds very promising! I've never seen either live but I can't imagine it being a non-event! factoid of the nite: In about 1986 Lee Perry made a single called "Jungle". You might want to give them a second chance, I saw the same tour that you did and I share your opinion, but about a year later saw them open for Spirtualized and it was great!!
