As I was scrolling through my IDM inbox this morning, deleteing 4 out of every 5 messages unread because they involved bitching about how much the list sucks or selling/trading fucking Coachella bootlegs, something occured to me: This recent "problem" with the list's Reply-To function should be looked at as a blessing in disguise and used by the list moderator as an idiot filter. After all, almost every single time someone replies to the whole list "by mistake", it's in an attempt to arrange a trade with some other schmoe who hasn't bought an actual record in his life and trades MP3s and CDRs like they were baseball cards. So why not just give the boot to anyone who replies to the whole list in this fashion? It's not like they'd contribute anything useful, anyway. Of course, if it was up to me, I'd also give the boot to people who don't quote properly (either quoting the whole message they're replying to, or not quoting at all), who post in all caps, and other things like that. But I'm just a cranky old man who remembers a time before any numbskull with a computer and a modem (or a freaking WebTV terminal) could get onto the Net, so don't mind me...
