I've been mixing in the odd Big Black track in amongst things... kinda fun, especially their cover of James Brown's Big Payback... still searching for that perfect mix to go with Devo's Redeye Express/Mr. DNA of their first album... I think their might be possibilities with NoMeansNo's Wrong album and drumnbass too, just haven't figured that one out either. good thread if you ask me... q

i could be wrong of course, but i've just noticed that animals on wheels' "soluble ducks" samples what sounds like the first bar of the bassline from fugazi's "greed" (off of _repeater_). sc

This might mark one of the first sample-crossovers of punk into idm. How exciting! Ian MacKaye (of fugazi) also formed half of Pailhead, which I think is a more exciting milestone, tho.... and that was 5 (?) years ago. but, it's cool to know that some of us idm-heads out there came from a punk background, as opposed to new wave/proto-goth/4ad origins. well, atari teenage riot did a kind of a cover of 7 seconds' "if the kids are united," which itself was a cover of the sham 69 tune. but as far as obscure sampling, i bet there's more...i'll have to think on this one. sc onnow: atom heart : schnittstelle (rather interesting)

there's a bit on an o yuki conjugate album (equator) where, every-so-faintly, amid the flutes and marimbas and such, you can make out an ansaphone sample of a guy talking about not knowing "where the fuck his ride is" it's from a third bass record. i bet you all didn't know that paul shutze was a closet hip-hop head. do i sense the emergence of a new thread? tsc.
