Are any of the Tortoise or Oval releases available at the concert? How about t-shirts and other merchandising? I've never heard Oval's music before and was wondering why someone said that their sound didn't come off too well live. Who are they comparable too? Also, does anyone have any info on what the Gary Numan show will be like? Is Switchblade worth catching??? _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. According to the tour page at the Thrill Jockey website (www.brainwashed.com/thrilljockey), there'll be a couple of tour exclusive releases available at the show - a Tortoise 7" and a CD collection of the Tortoise remix 12"s that came out a year or so back. I'm guessing they'll probably have some regular releases there as well (they did last time).

No-one, really. I can see that it mightn't work well live, but I'll probably go anyway. Which reminds me - to once again follow up on a couple of earlier messages I've posted on this topic, Oval *is* going to be appearing at the make-up dates at the end of the Tortoise tour after all. He's doing the first half of the tour, leaving to do some shows with Jim O'Rourke during the second half, and then rejoining for the last few dates. Info at the website mentioned above.

Good lord, NO!!! They're absolutely horrible. Or so I've been told. On record, they're relatively bearable goth-pop type stuff, but according to my wife and several friends who caught them when some friends of our's opened from them in Toronto a few months back, they were shite. Totally mismatched to be opening for Numan, but that's the fault of the label, Cleopatra. I'm making a point of showing up late at the show in Toronto tonight so I don't have to see them. For those who'd like to do the same, the official Numan site (www.numan.co.uk) lists door times and on stage times for every show on the tour. Greg

it'll be bad. numan will play cars and some other songs from that same album/period. mostly he'll sound like white zombie vs. david bowie (and with a stage show out of a poison video). was dissapointing. switchblade symphony is a joke. cutsey-candy-goth if there is such a thing. or, i guess there is now. happy-darkness or something. it was probably the worst show i've ever been to, however, the crowd went wild for it. completely ga-ga. it was mostly made up of really young goth kids, or middle-age drinkers. the crowd was much much more interesting and entertaining to watch/listen to than the stage. (the older folks were constantly making fun of the younger kids. the way they dressed/danced. it was good.) even if you like ebm, you won't like the show. maybe it was worth 14 bucks to hear cars live. maybe not. it was the third song, stayed for the fourth and left. -eric --- eric sherman szale@doubtful.com doubtful productions www.doubtful.com wkdu 91.7fm philadelphia transmitting ambient/idm thursdays midnight-6am
