I agree that as usual the plug mix is below-plug standard, but the squarepusher mix is goddamn excellent... much better than the original IMHO (and the original is also good:)) kF

It's short but brilliant. Very different than most other stuff you'll see posted to the list. The song "Original Bedroom Rockers" pretty much sums up this album's general vibe. The third track is especially wicked with its live drums and building momentum. It sounds kinda like really upbeat lounge music for your bedroom.

I love this album (as I continue to sound like a babbling moron). It is much more diverse than any other drum n'bass album, as the songs don't last interminably long and the beat never stagnates. Instead the songs have real harmonies and subtly shifting bass lines which make it a real head-nodding excursion. Get this and then get their import CD of remixes.

Avoid this record. Some good tracks, but better to just buy the damn albums.

Surprisingly good. Several superior tracks, some pretty solid, and some shit. The tracks by non-famous bands are usually excellent. The tracks by famous bands are usually not. But hey, LFO shows up on it so you have to get it. But overall it is better than 2 and 3, and just a little shy of 1.

Again a hit or miss proposition. Some are very good, including the hard to find Hawke and Nev. Himadri turns in a smashing track, but the Detroit contingent really don't stand out (except for Eddie "Flashin" Fowlkes). But it is an solid compilation to show what the US is capable of (2 years ago).

Very towards the hip hop side and has quite a few short fill-ins, but if you're into that sort of stuff, then you should get the disc.

Haven't heard this one myself, but I've heard its an excellent ep! With remixes by Squarepusher and Plug.
quoted 2 lines KRUDER & DORFMEISTER>KRUDER & DORFMEISTER > G-Stoned
Haven't heard this album either, but if you can find the Kruder adn Dorfmeister 'DJ Kicks' cd, then get that instead, its an excellent mix of trip hop and drum and bass!

Haven't heard this one either :), but if its anything like the album 'There are String', then its definitely worth checking out. AtL-5

the EP is indeed excellent but the FP originals are much better than the remixes. too bad cos i usually love Plug. the squarepusher mix is more of his useless wank. ruins a totally great track. also the FP album "love pussycats and carwrecks" is monstrously wonderful. big thumbs up. The fast, cut-up jungle stuff on the album is good, but the preponderance of lazy lounge-jazz tracks that don't start or end anywhere eventually cost F.P. its place in my CD rack. The d n' b stuff on Cujo's album on Ninebar is similar but more consistently interesting and the hip-hop tracks could serve as a lesson to the entire Ninja roster on the integration of real jazz and hip-hop. Very jazzy trip hop, very laid back, with a minimalistic, almost austere quality to some of the tracks. Some of my friends have criticized it as being somewhat milquetoast, but I disagree. The sounds are so clean in some instances it feels more like jazz than trip hop but then again who cares. It sounds good, and as an ep it is attractively priced.I like it a lot. Also their "DJ Kicks" cd which features them mixing others and themselves is a very nice cd to pick up. Halve fun, James

i recently picked up the plug research and development sampler, love it. also, (i'm a little late on both of these) dj food - refried food with the ae remix on it. amazing. any suggestions on more music in this vein? (yes, i know they're extremely different, but i'm looking into both styles) please include the labels they're on too. thanks! ps, i've already got all of autechre's original work, along with nearly all of rdj's stuf, squarepusher, vibert, etc. i'm looking for perhaps some more obscure, yet equally good stuff. i've read threads on groups such as jega/jewa/boc/etc. i'm really interested in this almost techno, deffinitely ambient/possibly hip-hop influenced stuff. also, i realize that this i a large field i'm asking about, so any small suggestions are helpful, thanks! craig. stansifer. stansifr@expert.cc.purdue.edu

on the plugresearch tip, definitely seek and acquire the mannequin lung: art of travel full length. it's an excellent mixture of abstract tech and dubby musings. highly recommended. you may also like some of the stuff on schematics.....
