for anyone who must know, the new mark hollis is achingly beautiful.
oddly, i hear elements of tortoise and gastr. i'm soon to be driving
cross-country, and i can't wait to have this for those late-night stretches
of open road.
bonus (almost) idm-content:
the new optical vs. matrix 12", "crossfloor"/"datalife" (ad hoc records) is
absolutely slammin', one of the more innovative tracks in
dancefloor-oriented d'n'b that i've heard in quite a while (granted, this
may just mean that i'm not hearing enough new d'n'b). very much in the
vein of what simon reynolds has termed "neurofunk," it makes use of a
techstep sensibility (without the overbearing drudgery which panacea seems
to be slipping into), but tempers it with agile funk. if other ad hoc
releases are in this vein, someone let me know. just when i thought i was
a little burnt out on d'n'b, this came along.
