Tried to order an out of print cd from CDNOW.COM for a friend, ended up with a credit for 20.60... now trying to decide what to pick up... unfortunately, the way they work, I've only got enough there to pick up ONE item (no matter HOW I try and work it...) They charge all sorts of wierd charges and taxes (?)... arg... anyhow... This is what I get for ordering from places other than the likes of Modern Music and 4th World... Any thoughts on the following? Much appreciated... AFX : ANALOGUE BUBBLEBATH B12 : TIME TOURIST FUNKI PORCINI : LET'S SEE WHAT CARMEN CAN DO JIMI TENOR : Outta Space RUBBER JOHNNY (APHEX TWIN) JAMROLYPOLY (tossed the above in mainly because of the recent discussions on this... what can I say, I thought it was amusing...) Everything on the list is pretty good, some better than others, but I would go for the Autechre Anti EP as it is rarer than any of the others. Actually I would be surprised if they had it in stock but if so grab it! Nate On Mon, 9 Jun 1997, s.f.w.d. wrote:

Not as much as I Care... and RDJ Album....its beats, while still great, are more mechanical than organic and thus very much more dancable...but there is that touch of cool sounds that he throws in to show you his potential...over all with RDJ Album being a 10 (cos I love that album) I'd give it an 8.5.

Gah! If the RDJ album is a 10, Analogue Bubblebath is around 200 :) One of the few decent tracks on RDJ is "Yellow Calx" which sounds suspiciously like a SAW II leftover with breaks laid on top. -- Chris

Personal preferences disregarding availibility issues: 1. AFX : ANALOGUE BUBBLEBATH Sorry, this ep is beyond criticism. Analogue Bubblebath is one of those 'perfect' songs like EVA or Tomorrow Never Knows, every note is exactly where it should be and you can't imagine it in any other way. 2. AUTECHRE : Anti Ep Autechre's best ep in my opinon. If you like Autechre get it. These two together should be about $20, right? Or else: 3. Mu-Ziq : URMUR BILE TRAX Vol 1/2 4. RUBBER JOHNNY JAMROLYPOLY Now Playing: Moog: the electric eclectics of Dick Hyman - this is some seriously funky shit. Just got re-issued on Varese Sarabande with 3 bonus tracks from The Age of Electronicus including dick's cover of James Brown's Give it Up or Turn it Loose. If you have any interest in moog music whatsoever check this out, you won't be disapointed. Puts all these ambient wankers we have these days to shame... _____ / ,-,_) /,_) (/ RESH Live & Direct from the G-Spot, Orange County, California, USA http://www1.linkonline.net/fresh/fresh.htm

I have to second Gonzi's recomendation here. Although I don't have the CD yet my local library has got both of the original LPs in its collection along with a bunch of other Moog records. If Luke Vibert were doing Plug tracks back in the early 70s (or whenever the hell the album came out) it'd sound like Hyman's "Tap Dance In The Memory Banks" (it's on the CD). I played the track for RDJ when I interviewed him in back in the beginning of the year and he guessed it was Hyman in about 2 seconds. He also mentioned that Luke was a fan of Hyman's stuff as well. Buy it. Howie

You need to visit Record Time (Gratiot North of the I696 exit) in Roseville for vinyl and the Berkely Harmony House (on Woodward Ave. South of 12 Mile rd) for cds. There are a lot of other places as well, but these will prolly put a sufficient drain on your wallet. When you shop HH, find yourself a copy of the local paper (free and given out in various shops - right inside the door at HH till they run out) "The Metro Times" and search the paper carefully for the best coupon you can find. They'll honor all coupons at the counter, regardless of what local store is running it. You can usually save from 3$ per disc to 20-25% off. HH does vinyl too, but Recordtime is hard to beat there. For general shopping (non IDM), try Repeat the Beat in Royal Oak (6th and Washington) for very good prices and good stock. There is also "Off the Record" in Royal Oak. I'd like to know myself about prices, limits, etc. on tix. I do know that you can do Credit card purchase by phone...here's the website of the place that will MOST LIKELY (read: I don't know) be handling it. HH has a Ticketmaster terminal on site, btw. http://events.ticketmaster.com/ good luck! jeff ps if you need any more local info, feel free to email me privately. -- dancing/about/architecture "...with wandering steps and slow..."
