Hi. the Ae remix of Gescom's Mag, on the Skampler compilation, is the best track I have heard by the Ae/Gescom boys in a long time. Can anyone recommend similar lo-fi, dark, edgy hip hop in this vein? thanks, jon ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Jonathan Logan Work: 415 543-2800 UI Droog Home: 415 487-0424 CriticalPath, Inc. well, the original gescom ep, with mag and snackwitch is really good, altough pretty many people seem to dislike it. mag (the original version) is the bomb, with some nice old-skool-hardcore-hip-hop-breakdance flavor. i think for hip-hop-style electronics, you should check out the label SCHEMATIC from miami. the jeswa and push button objects ep's are both clearly hiphop, at least from my point of view. the push button objects also has some nice samples and scratching. the metic ep (matrix blaster) is also cool with loadsa reverb on the beats... i only have one of the two takeshi ep's, but it didn't really do anything to me. but this is old news Sire One Coupe Devil Graphics

This is the second time I've heard this about Jeswa, and I'd like to express my disagreement. Yes, I'll admit, Push Button Objects is some of the best hip-hop I've ever heard. But... well let me give you an amazingly inane metaphor. If Autechre was an earthworm, and you cut it in half and let each half grow into a new earthworm, one would be Jeswa and the other would be Funkstoerung. But I wouldn't call either hip-hop. Just my two pfennigs.

Yes it is. So how about some new news about Chocolate Industries. I know this gets asked every few weeks, but people keep saying those 12"s should show up any day now. Anyone?

That, and the bassline somewhat reminds me of Coil's Snow. My opinion for the day Have fun! chris.

what a lovely metaphor, and so true! both jeswa and funkstörung have strong ae influences, but a completely different point of view. i personally like the jeswa aspect better. i have a little problem with the term hip-hop. i've listened to hip-hop for ages and think of it as a term covering not only rap music (and what they call turntablism), but a wider range of sounds carrying the same kind of mindstate. most hip-hop heads are really conservative about this, but then again, hip-hop culture hasn't been very open-minded for a long time. nowadays, it's all about keeping it real. thank god we still have hieroglyphics.
