It was rumoured at one point, but Freaky Chakra ended up getting the gig instead. I caught his set in Toronto a couple of weeks ago (had to skip out before Curve started, but from all accounts, I should be glad that I did). Nice stuff, a but more jungley than the new album. Greg

talking of Witchman i saw Deviant Traffic ( or something like that - the double CD ...) in tower yesterday and wondered if it was worth picking up - I've got the other album and i find it somewhat overwhelming - but I really like the track of his on the first AvantGardism comp - any hints would be appreciated thanks Dave

I,ve got the Second AvantGardism comp. and the Witchman track on that is also pretty good : "Witchman vs. Finitribe - The Bells, Witchman's Outcast Mix (7:28)" : goes all over the place (very arty), with sounds of bells in the middle section, surprisingly!! But that's all I know :-| See Ya, Mark. -- ____________________________________________________ Mark Hadley: mark.hadley@virgin.net ( u ( K () o http://freespace.virgin.net/mark.hadley/mark/go.html ____________________________________________________

Witchman produced the entire new FINITRIBE ALBUM SLeazy Listening which is FULL of Witchman touches. According to Finitribe who I interviewed this week, he is also working on a whole lot of other releases including a new album with guest vocals from TOni Curve Halliday. Heavy Traffic? I've never heard of it. But I do live in the arse end of the world. Could someone post a review ... including the release date and record label? Also, I hear that Explorimenting Beats and another Witchman disc have been released domestically ... any clue what the other one was? I am hoping that it is Nightmare Alley ... make my wishes come true. James np: G-Spot (Speedy J) amazing how some things sound much better after 3 years

I don't have it on me right now(I'm at work) but it's on Deviant and it's basically a double disc collection of previous eps(3 I think from 95-97/98) It's really good and ranges from jungle to dub mostly breakbeat type stuff, dark but not stark like Photek. It's kind of reminds me a bit of the Scorn remix album Ellipsis but with alot more jungle..anybody know where the guy came from? I heard he was part of Cubinate (ic!) or something? any previous recordings? spaul Andregurov wrote:

You should be able to get the rerelease of _Explorimenting Beats_ and the newly domestic _Heavy Traffic_ relatively easily. (seen e.b. for $15.99 and h.t. for $18.99 and that's worth the price imo) The eleven tracks on E.B. (same as 1st time i believe) viper flats, amok, stone deaf, hammerhead, chemical noir, order of the dragon, post trauma blues, n.y.23, no place like chrome, palace of angels, light at the edge (reprise) H.T. compiles all the tracks from: "heavy mental" "nightmare alley" "states of mind" & "main vein" (all e.p.s) with the exception of the luke vibert remix of "red demon loco" (damn it, that's the only vibert track i can't find anywhere!) as well as one track from "shape of rage" e.p. (leaf records) the witchman track from avangardism (comp law&auder) state of the nu art (comp blue planet) Tracklist as follows: cd1 mutha lode, bullethead, heavy mental, bone music, amokII, chemical noir, kada nostra, light at the edge cd2 hammerhead, primal skin, offbeat, arcane radio, red demon loco (orig.), offworld (fire mix), hand of god, destiny though i've enjoyed witchman since hearing the leaf e.p., this double cd has really given me a new appreciation of his knack for blending styles and switching moods. enjoy bR

John Roome was a member of Terminal Power Company before shuffling off on his own to record under the Witchman moniker. TPC were a mediocre (at best, IMO) pop-ish "industrial" rock outfit ... samples, electronics, guitars, drums etc. They had at least two albums, maybe more, which I wouldn't recommend (not these days anyway). Actually, I'd say you can tell that Roome came from this sort of background ... he uses a lot of soundbites (especially on his earliest 12"s) from horror/sci-fi films and the like that you're more likely to encounter on late 80's/early 90's "industrial" records than anywhere else. Also, the rhythms he uses, and his drum programming style (before the hip-hop influence became dominant) are/were products of this school, not to mention the dark edge a lot of his tracks have. -Patrick np: Jigen - "Stone Drum Avantgardism"
