Saw this tonight and it was a very unusual and good show. Unusual in the
sense that it was held in a very brightly lit, huge corporate skyscraper
on the bottom floor (ie 'food court') for about 30-40 people, a lot of
whom were coat and tie types who had no idea what the fuck was going on.
It was good in the sense that the 2 (not 3) members of We plugged in their
2 Akai samplers, their 2 Mackies and got biz. They rocked the place with a
chilled out ambient intro which melded into smooth dnb, freaky spacey
slow, slow dub, and then a good portion of mid tempo reverb packed stuff.
The cool part was (a)for 'those in the know' it was a good vibe (albeit in
a very sober setting) and (b)it was amusing to watch uninformed people's
reactions; it was like they were saying "What the fuck is this? It's
cool!"
Anyway it was fun, We is under-rated IMHO, and if you don't have their
last record "As Is", you should check it out.
peace
