Thine Eyes are a grest combo from somewhere in the US (can't remember where exactly) who started out years ago as an electro-goth type of band. I remember getting a couple of cassettes from them back in the day when I wrote for a couple of goth/industrial zines. Over time, they've gotten more and more IDMish. They only have two widely available releases - an album called "Christian Sex Loops" (IDM/electronica with slight industrial tinges - kinda like Download) and a remix album with some new material called "My Knobs Taste Funny" (which includes the Spybey and Not Breathing mixes). They've also got some exclusive stuff up on MP3.com, and recently circulated a CD-R demo of new material which is really, really good. Thine Eyes have two CD releases, "Christian Sex Loops" which was released sometime around early 1998, and then "My Knobs Taste Funny" which came out late last year. They're both good albums of IDM sounding material. I prefer the newer of the two as it's more abrasive in spots. As far as I know they used to dabble in the EBM-electro-industrial scene before finding their new sound, which is IMO better ten fold. matt

Thanks Greg, Speaking of Download... Did I dream up word on Cevin Key and Mark Spybey touring together again sometime in the near future? I know that He (Spybey w/ DVOA are joining the Legendary Pink Dots on a tour soon, but it would be pretty amazing if there were other reunions to speak of... Pipe dream? Also, have Thine Eyes every been around that you knwo of? I don't know about touring, but when I spoke to Mark at the Toronto DVOA show last year, he said that they may record some new material together at some point.

As in a live performance? Not in Toronto, no. But I'd be happy to set one up for them if they ever wanted to do so. when I saw DVOA perform in Youngstown, OH (I was one of maybe 5 who attended; the show got zero publicity), their set was all over the place. they performed quite a bit of download-ish material, some of which was actually download material remixed. think stanley pain's crazier techno sounds, only really, really, really loud. the lineup included collaborations with not breathing and one of the members of download (not cEvin key) whose name I can't recall. he was a nice guy. in any case, entertain the possibility of DVOA sounding somewhat like download at times if you see them, regardless of whether or not it's a genuine reunion per se. matt ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I thought they did... they've played out in somewhere called the Jasmine Tiki Rooms at least once, and they're selling the recordings through mp3.com ( www.mp3.com/thine_eyes I think)... it's different stuff from their studio work though, with some really minimal (but good) analogue stuff from the band's Korg Electribes. I don't know if this was a one-off, though, so I can't really talk. Oh well. Super-atomic geezers anyway. Scope out their new tracks as well - they're pretty rampy.
