hmmm... well, it looks like nobody from the erudite idm intelligencia bothered with my humble question... (has some new protocol for asking questions been implemented in the two years i have been away from idm-l?) :-/ ...all i want to know is whether the uk release of tri repetae has a noisy intro (beats emerging out of noise) to dael or does it cut straight to a clean beat... (meaning that the distortion is caused by scratches on my cd) can someone with the uk release please please check this? (my cd collection is far away right now, so i can't compare the track times on the us and uk versions) btw, i've checked ALL the Ae pages, tried audio clips, browsed through the archives, but can't find anything... ...so its not like i'm being lazy... thank you. ps:just picked up the new mannequin lung cd... very cool... kind of basic channel meets detroit techno... very laid back and quirky... (also picked up the max tundra, which sounds much better over realaudio imo) and... there seems to be some kind of new funkstroung CD out... any word on that? i've just heard about it from collin at strangeNYC... is that the ep that was scheduled to be released on chocolate industries? and one last thing, is the new philus CD on sahko anything like ollento? i've only been able to find one review on the web... ...thanks in advance. :spacecake:

nope, in fact the list has returned to it's original status quo where not every single question garners a reply. don't make it personal :-\
quoted 1 line distortion is caused by scratches on my cd)> distortion is caused by scratches on my cd)
scratches on your CD would probably sound distinctly like a skip.

quite the contrary, you're on a mission for truth, you go!

ahhh! now there's a thread I can get with. when we're geezers we'll fondly remember these realaudio days but I suspect we'll need not remember the days of mp3 as they'll be still upon us. easy, tp

<sigh of relief> just when i thought idm-l was taken over by mean nasty people... <shudder> ...thank you all for answering my question. ever since i bought the us release when it came out i've been annoyed that it lacks that cool crunchy/noisy intro, thinking that the track has been changed in the tradition of the the orb's perpatual dawn... (peeerpetual daaaawnnnn oooh now naa now, remember *that*?) but i've forgot about it until browsing the ae pages recently and not seeing anything on it- however, it seems that the us and uk versions are the same after all... and been pissed for nothing these past two years. that sucks. (but at least now i don't have to buy my 3rd copy! unless its the japanese version...hmmm. :-) ) <teep wrote>:

...the first forty seconds skip and are completely unaccessible, then there is a very crunchy sound which gradually evens out over the next 20 seconds... -very autechreish... and to kill two birs with one stone: <robert merlak wrote>:

yeah, but this one seems to be out already. as soon as i heard about it i told collin to get it- but he has been wrong before... ...maybe he mixed it up with something else... anyway, i'll post about it as soon as i learn more.

I don't know how was before 2 years, because I subscribed to IDM in September 1997.

I checked this for you, and there is no a noisy intro, or beats emerging out of noise... maybe your CD is pressed incorectly. I had the same problem with K Hand "Global Warning" CDS.

Yes, that's true. Chicolate Industries will soon release these : Funkstorung "Post Art" 12"/CD Push Button Objects "Unauthorized" 12" (with Autechre remix) Anybody know something more about this label, where are they from, are those their first releases ??

Sorry, I haven't heard it yet, it's on a way to me... Here is review that Mult wrote few weeks ago : Philus: Tetra CD(Sahko 15) Our fine Finnish friend, Mika Vanio's "medical project" [don't ask me what that means, though i cooould take a guess]. The source appears to be all sine tones, manipulated and arranged in repeative patterns. The beats are scarce. And i will admit, the sounds are cool/experimental/nice/ambient/whatever. Unfortunately, like just about all of Mika's work, it's not for those with short attention spans. There is no expansion to that original cool sound. Basically Just a loop. After a first hint of listening and acknowledging the uniqueness of the sounds and concepts, one might find him or herself wandering off into the other room to find something to entertain themselves. The most enjoyable track is, by far, "Tele", with it's 'morse code' sequences and squelchy taps. And it is one of the only ones you will remember. The album is all experiments and no substance. Rather than putting such a large amount of material out in such a short time, i'd be interested in seeing Mika put more effort in musical development, as opposed to blind experimentation. I suggest putting _Tetra_ in your background listening bin. bye rob np: Baby Ford "Change"

-sounds like the one that came out on touch which i didn't pick up... this noise stuff is cool but gets old quickly for me. personally, i can't forgive myself for selling all my percious orb singles a few years ago to buy a bunch of obscure experimental noise stuff... <FUCK!!!> now, the orb singles are rarities, but no one gives a shit about merzbow's 55th CD... <sigh>

i'd like to second or third the high kudos for the mannequin lung CD. though i don't find a lot of BC lineage there, there is boucoup variety and smoothsmoothsmooth 313 styling. pads reminiscient of model500 and beats which delight. the suckah punch closer, the mr hazeltine remix of city lights (featuring divine styler) is a show stopper. if you like detroit with a new spin, search this one out.
