my school has a cd-r burner w/ a mac (and Toast). can anyone explain to me how download an MP3, then get it into toast so i can burn a disc for myself? it would be very, very much appreciated, and asfor http://www.eurotel.sk/~chch/aphex/index3.htm ive had no trouble connecting etc. so people should try it out (although i wouldn't say it had everything, im no trainspotter but i have most of the stuff on there....) thanks andy reviews: All MEat No Filler-Fat Boys , "a best of" the Fat BOys comp released on Rhino, its pretty nice to have the stuff on cd, but its missing some good tracks, also get the Best of NEwcleaus(Jam on It etc), also put out by Rhino, its great old electro and cheap (i got mine on sale at tower for (8.99$) oldish stuff: electrofunk2 on adrenalin is suprisingly good (the 1st comp was great, had Sem like this one also uberzone like this one, but A.Baambata as well)... seems like this can be easily found at cheap prices, at leastin nyc anyway...

I visited the page back when it didn't have the restrictions that it has now, could have downloaded pretty much everything no problem, but pretty much *all* of what is there is fairly easy to come by (unless alot of been added since my visits) I wasn't to keen on the idea of some much being made available that was so easy to order/come by/ 1/2 of which they sell down at the mall stores.... but thats just me =) brap@sonic.net /// occasional noisy soundfiles (np: burundi challenge.rm) http://www.sonic.net/~brap/ blackdog, vvm, whitezone-l, slipdisc, radiora.ram C.Gosselin, 1547 Boston Court #7, Santa Rosa, CA 95405

Hiya, To burn an mp3 to CD-R (this is how I do it anyway): 1. download the file to the local machine. with the aphex site, I prefer using fetch FTP because if it is busy you can try again really quickly with little trouble. 2. Drop by www.download.com and pick up "Mpecker Drop Decoder." This will allow you to take your mp3s, drag and drop them over the Mpecker Icon and it will automatically convert them to .AIFF. It takes a little while and ALOT of hard disk space. A 7 Meg mp3 can expand into a 40+ Meg AIFF so be sure you have the space for it. 3. Sometimes the file isn't in the right format (16 bit, 44.1 sampling rate) so stick the aiff into a sound editor to be certain (usually they are in the right format, so this isn't imperative) 4. Tell toast that you wish to use the "Audio CD" format and tell toast where the AIFFs are (check the manual if you aren't sure how to do this). Then "Write disk" 5. That's it! Another alternative, since mp3's are much smaller and the quality is about the same, is to just burn the mp3's to a cd. You're home stereo won't be able to play them (or any other regular CD player) but if you are like me and have your computer hooked up to your stereo (or good multimedia speakers) you can enjoy hours upon hours upon hours of music on one CD. WinAmp has some cool plugins to entertain you while you listen, as well. Also, just a matter of opinion, but instead of downloading "I care because you do" or any other easily available album from the net, why not just buy them? You get artwork, a quality disk that you can leave in the sun (I heard CD-R's are very sensitive to sunlight, can lose data and such), not to mention supporting the artist and such. I've burned a few things myself, but those are things I know I will never see in my lifetime (mask2, joyrex, etc) and thus will never be able to spend my money on. Then again, you could always use mp3 as sort of a preview of an album to see if you would even like it..... ______________________________________________________________________________ . . ..a n a g r a m a t c a t s d o t u c s c d o t e d u.. . . . . ..h y p e r t e x t t r a s f e r p r o t o c o l.. . . ..u s e r s d o t c w n e t d o t c o m s l a s h a n a g r a m..

How many of you leave your CDs in sunlight? Based on info at Kodak's website, the color booklets on your normal CDs will fade before a CDR would go bad. I remember reading in Mix about 3 years ago that Stephen St.Croix left a CDR in a south-facing window for a week - no data errors. If you treat your CDRs like your vinyl rekkids, you'll have no problems. There's a massive CD faq at: http://www.cd-info.com/CDIC/Technology/CD-R/FAQ.html Please skim this for the obvious Qs. Che

Try SoundApp (current verison is, I believe, 2.4.4). It converts MP3 to whatever you tell it to (my conversion is set to 16 bit/stereo/SoundDesigner II format). Of course, I onlt throw the files (when done) to a DAT. OK to listen to until I get the real record, but no MP3 is good enough for CD. BRAT
