in case anyone's interested... Aspen - "Are you that retail snob?" (involve) soft and beautiful melodies; soul like the early days of Ae...on the leading edge of IDM's return to melody, it seems to me. Kim Cascone - "cathodeFlower" (mille plateaux) the most interesting of recent mille plateaux releases...subtle and beautiful...maybe even a bit short. My cd player always scares me when it switches to the next CD. I'm never ready for it. Plod - "Pillow Talk" (worm interface) would be release of the year so far if it hadn't been released last year (at least that's what the back says)...hrm...markkinal is epic, but all 10 tracks do it for me... Curd Duca - "Elevator 2" (mille plateaux) schizophrenic...reminiscent of what black dog was trying to do with "music for adverts (and short films)"...32 tracks, some beautiful and melody-driven...others just good noise for your ears. "touch" is a highlight. Slowdive - "Pygmalion" (creation) an ambient classic in my book...the last real slowdive album before they went all mojave3 on us...the best ambient guitar I've heard and his voice isn't so shabby, either... well, that's the top five of late...hope someone finds it interesting. ---brian -- Superman doesn't get lois lane... ---oh yeah, what does he get? he gets to be Superman.
