Jazzy with thick atmosphere...Micks fretless bass runs abound...nice d-n-b rythyms in and out, occasional ambient sections. Acoustic sounding, very smooth. Interesting instrumentation; you get the rat-a-tat drum programming with clarinets and all kinds of ethereal smples, Asian flavored chimes, breakbeats used sparingly and just a different feel to it than most of what is afoot. It's very inventive, but not as wild as Bisk. There is an occasional spoken word thing here and there also. Likin' it so far, but I'm only 6 tracks in...some very nice effects and odd loping on this. I can definitely hear the Bisk connection, but more jazzy and atmospheric (as you might expect from Karn's input). jeff

I do not agree with the following statements. They are only ramblings of a potential fool. Subject: Boards of Canada. I got in this discussion with "sketchy" listener of IDM. He mentioned he got the Bola lp awhile backand enjoyed it alot. I filled him in on how there were two other Bola tracks on the AI2 comp. Now, it lead to Boards of Canada. The only BoC he has experienced is the "Music Has..." lp and the Peel Sessions. He said Mike and Marcus didn't have any production skills. ...Said they are not very good right now and if you give them five years, they will be making music to die for. yeah, perhaps so... then again, maybe not. I remember BoC making their presents known and their popularity spread like wildfire. So, I'd like so opinions on BoC concerning their production skills. thug - isolated rhythm chock (aural industries) *not my bag. one of those releases that people seem to rate highly and i can't understand why (studio 1 anyone?). i suppose the melodies are really nice so it is quite easy listening but the beats seem a bit too weak and obvious for me. i do however like the beatless track (the first one?) and the remix of it (nice delayed melodies). the off-key track is far too grating for my likings too. its wierd to say this as some off-key tunes i've heard i absolutely love like 'mike&rich - vodka' (probably because its fun), and lots of sawII (probably because its so disturbing). anyway thanks to john at aural industries for hooking me up with this (hope you liked that aspen cd). kit clayton - nek purpalet 12"(~scape) and nek sanalet cd(~scape) *love both of them, especially the tracks on side 2 of the 12". nice to hear dub influences in techno that aren't cheesy, and cool fuck up vocals on the cd. is this guy truely from san fran? if so - why the german titles? and what are his other releases like in relation to these? actually one of the tracks on the cd has a noise that i find grating too (track7?) but a friend absolutely loves it. hmmmmmm. and a question - what does this sound like?

all i've heard of terre thaemlitz is the track on m&t4 which is amazing (probably my favourite on that compilation) and the latest one on mp, which is piano interpretations of gary numan songs (sounded good but i wasn't in the mood to buy it). also - i've tried to order that remix 12" on lux nigra (thaddeus hermann??) but my local store said that its deleted - is this true? dave --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
