(Picked from the latest issue of Finnish rock magazine Rumba) Panasonic released a 12-inch with Alan Vega, the vocalist of legendary Suicide, called "Medal", at the end of January of 1998. A full-length album of Panasonic's sessions with Vega should be out by the end of summer on Blast First. Panasonic has been working for Japanese fashion houses, providing soundtrack for their shows in Paris and Tokyo. Early February will see the exhibition of Scandinavian modern art at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, for which Mika Vainio is supposed to build a sound installation based around Björk's videos and the works of British multimedia artist Jeremy Deller (known also for his 'Acid Brass' album and ***K The Millennium project of former KLF members). The recordings for the new Panasonic album start also on February, and the album should be in stores in May. Also some co-operation with the German FM Einheit (ex-Einstürzende Neubauten) is to be expected during this year. Mika Vainio will provide another sound installation for the art gallery Titanik's ten year celebration in Turku, after which Panasonic will tour the US West Coast, starting in San Francisco at the end of May, and continuing during early summer. erkki rautio, also known as pHinn * the webmaster of pHinnWeb - the old skool, the nu skool and the pHuture * * skool of Finnish electronic music * * trerra@uta.fi | http://www.uta.fi/~trerra | http://www.sci.fi/~phinnweb * * a c c e p t c h a o s *

People, why is it that literally every second message I've recieved from this fucking mailing list in the last while has contained little more than "[insert band name here] suck/blows/is shit/etc.". Please. All of you. Read this and try to understand: There's nothing wrong with disliking a particular artist, or style of music, or whatever. But if you feel the need to share this dislike with the rest of us, please try to *justify* and *explain* the reasons for your dislike of said artist/style/etc. Offer some real criticisms or analysis. Offer reasons why the music that you *do* enjoy is "better" than the music that you don't. Try to do this without insulting those who enjoy the stuff that you're criticizing. In other words, stop and fucking THINK for a moment or two! And if you attempt to do this but still find that the only opinion you have to offer is that something "sucks", then do yourself, me and everyone else on this list a favour - either take it to private email or SHUT THE FUCK UP! This rant was brought to you by not enough sleep last night and too much coffee aggrivating my ulcer. Have a nice day. Greg PS: Oh yeah - Neubauten does NOT suck, so nyah nyah nyah. :-)

Hmm! a shit fight ... don't think it's better than a flame war, but it's sure is messier. Are you talking about good or bad shit ?:) I like panasonic, and I don't know "Einsturzende Neubauten" so I can't say whether the result will be good or bad shit... Max.

ok in Reply to this and gregs message ;-) The Einsturzende Neubauten albums which i own in my opinion do not 'blow'. I know they have vocals (and yes they mostly sing in German), and yes they use 'real' instruments (loud guitars sometimes! yikes!) and i know a lot of people on this list try to deny anything with vocals or guitars , or pretend they never liked anything with vocals or guitars ..... probably some kind of self-denial due to all those Nirvana and Pearl Jam albums out there ;-) Ende Neu (their most recent album) does not suck because : Stella Maris is one of the most haunting songs ive ever heard with an incredible vocal duet between Blixa Bargeld and Meret Becker. It also has a string section (a real one) which makes me melt. Die explosion in Festspeilhaus features a 'pencil solo' which pans marvellously from left to right and back again, some marvellous organs and a womens choir. NNNAAAMMM is probably one of the best songs in 9/4 time i have ever heard, btw the remixes of this song SUCK Ende Neu : the song structure is very appealing as towards the end as the song shifts from verse to chorus and back, the verse keeps getting a bar shorter everytime, which is done with expert (live) precision and builds tension incredibly.. The words are good too. all the other songs on the album 'rock' too as does the album Tabula Rasa but i cant be bother to write anymore as i dont think anyone is listening... maybe a few... also Einsturzende Neubauten means Collapsing New Buildings which is a wonderful name If you like strange electroacoustical industrial experimental or just good music i suggest you buy Ende Neu tommorrow, i think this was in my top five albums i listened to last year. Einsturzende Neubauten have a great deal of experience (and years) in making the music they do, and it shows when they can produce an album as 'mature' as this which still endlessly innovates and surprises... hmm dont let the word 'Mature' put you off though.... my two pennies Steve /k/./F/ The Church Of England :- Killing Foreigners for Profit and Jesus

nono, i really like EN, but panasonic is poop. i honestly don't understand why people like them. not at all. we played with them in cleveland last summer. we saw what they do and heard what comes out of it. whoever: their live show is MUCH MUCH better than their recorded stuff. but it's still not very good. it's like they try to impress everyone with their music-less-ness. :) nothing like EN, where EN is pure human. so absolutely human. you know what i mean? there's GROOOOOOOOOVE! nothing like that at all in panasonic. the sounds aren't even interesting. EN's abrasiveness is comparable to autechre's abrasiveness: it's ok. it's permissable because the entire composition works well and moves you and goes somewhere. EN is especially powerful and emotional, panasonic lacks power and emotion altogether. just before they finished their set (panasonic in cleveland) they tried as hard as they could to blow out the PA the club owner rented especially for them, and they did, costing the club owner more money to throw the party than he made. everyone was covering their ears for the last five minutes of their set. everyone. and they were still fucking smiling. no, i don't like panasonic. i'm hoping FM Einheit (my favourite EN guy :) will knock some goodness into them. -eric _____________________________________________________ :: eric sherman szale@doubtful.com :: :: doubtful productions www.doubtful.com ::

Yeah i mean i mainly base my views of them on a live gig in sheffield from about 2.5years ago... but i do enjoy their albums (albeit not often).... they were absolutely stunning live imo.. but i can imagine how it could fall apart lie or just be boring.. ...and then Jimi Tenor came on and did a live set which was pretty hilarious and then Tom Jenkinson came on and played the most amazing fretless bass, and danced to his drum fills this was the first time i heard what eventually became 'feed me wierd things'. Its hard to remember just how new squarepusher sounded back then, not long ago at all really .....Pretty good night all in all really ;-)

maybe FM Einhart will inject some emotion and grooove into the mix...and some dirt, panasonic lack dirt (not that 'clean' digital dirt they use ;-) whatever Steve /k/./F/

i guess i feel i must speak up for the other side. of what i have of panasonic (kulma & vakio) i love them. i havent had the chance to see them live, but i can see how a live performance has the chance to be _very_ different from their recordings. no, panasonic has no groove. they arent trying to groove. panasonic is minimal (taken to extremes at times) simple, thoughtful, enjoyable, listenable, zen-like, trance-inducing, and it made my friend essej say "this is the only music that i have heard that caused physical pain. please turn it off." im a sucker for art.
