i'm enjoying the holy heck out of the dj vadim remix album on ninja tune, _ussr reconstruction_. this is an all-around solid comp, featuring standout cuts from jamie hodge, techno animal, the prunes, clatterbox, reflection, daniel pemberton, and oval, among a half dozen others. the hodge track is particularly great, and for those that've heard it, i'd be interested to know if he's released other stuff in this vein. pretty dense, smokey instrumental hip-hop, a nice mix of sampled, scratchy-as-hell percussion and treated drum machines and such. and after his top contributions to the conjoint album on km20, i'm wondering just what else of his i need. whatsis born under a rhyming planet stuff like? also, the oval track is one of the best things i've heard outta them/him, across the board. much fuller and more timbrally varied. a *dynamic* oval track? believe it... sc

Well Jamie Hodge has done some stellar stuff mostly in the experimental electroncia vein not unlike some of the early autechre, beaumont hannant or nev. Lots of changes of pace and direction within each track all often with the most exquisite builds. His two Plus8 12"s are: . Born Under A Rhyming Planet: Spasm 12" (Plus 8) . Born Under A Rhyming Planet: Analouge Heaven 12" (Plus 8) He also did a spectacular remix a year or two ago for the Sensorama remix lp on the Ladomat label. Other remixers on that lp were plaid, claude young, mouse on mars, global comm to name a few. A real gem of a release. I believe jamie has also done an lp with Fax-master Peter Namlook but i don't have it so i cannot comment on it. BTW: You can listen to the Born Under A Rhyming Planet 12"s via RealAudio on the Plus8 website at: http://www.plus8.com/Plus_8/ Scroll down the left-hand menu until you see the link for the Plus 8030 or Plus 8053 12"s. Once in those menus you can click on the tracks and listen to them. You'll thank me later. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

I agree with the early Nev comparisons.

I only have the latter (a 50p barg), but it is most excellent. There are some really nice old school tracks (4 in totally) which are kind of similar in style and mix well with Neon Lights from Kraftwerks "Man Machine" and the first remix on that Cylob remix EP. That's all I can add. gb. -- /TheW i http://www.homeusers.prestel.co.uk/lwtcdi/all/ f o L D o dlr WTC "Let's decompose and enjoy assembling!"
