artist : bochum welt title : module 2 label : replhex catalouge : cat042cd summary : melodic, beat-y, and clean music that makes me think 'electronic.' why, why, why does such a wonderful cd have such hideous packaging? i know it's supposed to be campy, but this cd deserves better. most of the tracks are fairly mid-tempo pieces, with logical progressions... nothing too terribly abstract here, just great to listen to. that's not to say it's simple, this has a lot of depth, particularly in the use of particular sounds which would seem out of place or cheezy in other contexts. i don't have the familiarity with the gear to identify what's originating all of those sounds, unfortunately. :) i can only use simple words to describe this release: melodic, clean, dynamic. i liked it almost immediately, and haven't grown tired of it. almost every track on here makes me smile. i can sort of see where it has a slight retro edge to it, which perhaps the packaging is referential to. one weird thing i notice is that there are some strange extremely high portions which i wonder if were intended, particularly in track 3, "paph." they're the kind of thing you might not even hear if your speakers don't have a great enough range. just odd. - -- the light that burns twice as bright burns half as long greyrose@nervosa.sf.ca.us http://www.extortion.com
