A new feature length documentary titled "Modulations." Director: Iara Lee (I believe her sophomore cinematic effort) Screening of this flick now at Sundance film festival, Utah. Subject: electronic music, past and present, emphasis on the present. See! One of the guys from Autechre pick his nose. Witness! The down-to-earth charm of Tom Jenkinson in his bedroom extolling the virtues of cheap FM synths. Hear! Bob Moog play a snippet of Amazing Grace on a theremin. Wonder! at the conspicuous absence of RDJ in the list of over 300 subjects interviewed for the film. Filmed all around the world, this movie provides a comprehensive, balanced overview of the evolution of modern electronic music. Most major sub-genres are represented, at the expense of delving deeply into any one of them. The movie's hodgepodge non-chronological format mirrors (I feel) the disjointed nature of the electronic music genre. MTV friendly style, yet mature. Other folks in it that I remember: Mixmaster Morris, FSOL, Kid Koala, Genesis P Orridge, DJ Spooky, Jonah Sharp, Africa Bambaataa, Stockhausen, bunch of Detroit guys, Prodigy, John Cage, Kraftwerk, Coldcut, Panacea. Lots of quick head-shot interviews. Plus breakdancing! I bet there's a webpage about this movie somewhere. I believe the producer is currently entertaining distribution deals. Bottom line: Cool. A documentary about music I like. Glad I saw it. glaubimg@sverdrup.com

Maybe she was striving for accuracy, hence the absence of Richard D. "I Cannot Tell The Truth, At Least Not In An Interview" James. Che
