I picked up this CD on Clear (CLR430CD) knowing nothing about As One or Clear other than having heard the name "As One" bandied about on this list on occasion. I got it for $12.99 in lovely San Frandisco. I usually make it a point to buy at least one mystery CD that people seem to be talking about when i go shopping, and last trip to R.R., this was it... Last one I bought was SKAMpler, which I don't like nearly as much as this one, except for maybe about 4 trax on it. The rest sounded like video game music. Bottom line w/r/t "in with their arps and moogs and jazz and thins" -- I like it, probably a lot more than many other "idm" benighted releases I've bought. I've usually found that the more "intelligent" the music is, the less I like it.... I mostly like unintelligent dance music (e.g. chicago house ala Derreck Carter or Mark Grant) because, after all, it's my butt, not my brain, that dances. Anyways, I was wondering how does this release compare w/ other "As One" releases. Do they have this kinda sound? Are they better, worse, different? I like this sound. And who the hell is Kirk Degiorgio. I can swear i've heard that name before in some other context that I can no longer remember. Thanx. PS: I found this in a net search offa offa http://www.forcedexposure.com/labels/clearuk.html -- looks like I saved $6.00!! Artist: AS ONE Title: in with their arps, and moogs, and jazz and things. Label: CLEAR (UK) Format: CD Price: $19.00 Catalog Number: CLR 430 CD As One is Kirk Degiorgio . He ran the A.R.T. (Applied Rhythmic Technology) label, more recently superceded by by OP-ART. He has also recorded as Future/Past & Esoterik, on labels such as R+S and New Electronica, including an appearance on Planet E's Intergalactic Beats compilation. In a similar vein to Black Dog productions or Carl Craig, Degiorgio makes the intensely organic machine music of the highest order, with lush jazzified keyboards floating across streaming bottom-loaded techno basslines. This is a CD version of the previous double-EP vinyl release The Message in Herbie's Shirt with an extra track, and follows Celestial Soul (New Electronica) as the 2nd As One album. An extremely high caliber production. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ==>> Niels Mayer (mayer@netcom.com) <<>> http://www.cybertribe.com/mayer <<== =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -----BEGIN PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK----- Version: 2.6.3 mQCNAzJKOnMAAAEEAMD9U5YD2wiMJU7vUYq1uqBB9M2sf9CuOhHRM5oYTygDMQGP Ot928KtN3/2jHlYSmGHceZZYtCUdISievlNPD5+JgrHCtU3rFfvzWJuMsODGSoo1 X3csx0aEvAfkHh+fHWs04iU7Sm5t8fp31PP5DPf9KEJIsX2Y63ZBlPtktX29AAUR tCFOaWVscyBQLiBNYXllciA8bWF5ZXJAbmV0Y29tLmNvbT6JAJUDBRAySjpzdkGU +2S1fb0BAWT1BACH1GWBrkYufLb2KN5nyqB5r2TyqeqgNirOSpuQT9a4ozFAqSiM M8k+w+uj+VAMwugKdz9kL41thUCY+FI/jv4SPQzbwkY2mJs80YLJEqWA0OKUcI2F naYvMJo2zKS9jjAEX6hT5No4ZUK9hS8sREcHI2twdrJ66zExV3s6xUlSUQ== =RUx1 -----END PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK-----

If you like that sound then you should get: . As One: The Art of Prophecy cd (Shield) . As One: Celestial Soul cd (New Electroncia) If you would like something somewhat jazzier but still in that same vein: . As One: Planetary Folklore cd (MoWax) If you would like something a little more smooth detroit techno sounding: . As One: Reflections cd (New Electronica) . As One: Reflections on Reflections remix cd (New Electronica) But all are recommended.

Kirk is the owner/operator of the legendary A.R.T./Op-ART labels. He records under the aliases As One, Esoterik, Future Past and Elegy. He has released a plethora of material on labels like A.R.T., New Electronica, Clear, Shield, B12 and MoWax with compilation appearances on a dozen or so other labels. Kirk is a pretty busy producer. It takes a pretty penny to keep up with all of his releases. : ) -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

Oh? Is this true? I've got the "Shirt" vinyl and wasn't aware of it being basically the same as "in with their arps and moogs and jazz and things" (which, btw. got a rave review in URB last year :-) ) I must say that personally, I prefer the sound of this to Planetary Folklore, but find them quite different and hard to ascribe to the same author. Not totally. The CD combines the Shirt 2x12" with another EP that came out at the same time as the CD (and to make it more confusing, it has the same *title* as the CD as well). I think there might also be an extra non-vinyl track on the CD, but I have both the vinyl releases so I can't say for sure. Greg

This is a bit confusing... The "In with their arps and moogs and jazz and things" vinyl contains three tracks, all on the "In with their arps..." CD. The "The Message in Herbies Shirts" double vinyl (not available on cd in that particular release) contains eight tracks whereas the track "New Wave" is the only track exclusive to this release. All the others are to be found on "In with their arps..." CD. That CD also carries an extra track not available anywhere else, namely "Sphere of the fixed stars.". So, you had better get both of the fullengths if you want all the tracks. The tracklisting to the CD: Epic Chiarp Last of the Almoravids The Electric Hymn The Kiss Sphere of the Fixed Stars Triumphant Queen Constance The Message in Herbies Shirts A Short Track About Love Hyeres The tracklisting to the 12": Triumphant The Electric Hymn Last Of The Almoravids The Tracklisting to the 2x12": Epic A Short Track About Love The Message in Herbies Shirts Hyeres New Wave Chiaro The Kiss Queen Constance All three releases are brilliant, and I advice you to get "The Message in Herbies Shirts" just for the artwork, it's one of the most goodlooking records I've ever seen. If you can do without (*smile*), get the CD. Planetary Folklore is nothing close to the brilliance of "The Message in Herbies Shirts", but still very good. Kirk knows his shit, that's for sure.
