(Lurk Off) Sorry about cutting in on the bandwidth, but I just wanted to let everyone know that happy go lucky has recently released a 12" of two new tracks, "Blow Up" and "Electrosleep", from Bowery Electric. Fans of their last album _Beat_ should find this 12" a must have as it shows Bowery Electric, again, taking another massive step into the land of beats. The 12" is available directly from happy go lucky for $6 ppd in the US (Canada add $1, world add $3) checks or MOs to happy go lucky (we like cash too) happy go lucky po box 44342 Cleveland, OH 44144 If you can't find it in your local store and don't want to order it direct, you can get it through bent crayon @ www.bentcrayon.com. I'm sure most of you know john c. Thanks for your time. Rick Following is the industry-required one sheet: Above everything else, Bowery Electric are dedicated to one thing - pushing their music forward. Beat their second full length for Kranky, found Bowery Electric experimenting with sampled beats and analog synthesizers to expand beyond the wondrous drones of their first self-titled LP. The new 12" on happy go lucky shows the same forward progression. Continuing with the experimentation of beats, Blow Up shows a side of Bowery Electric not yet witnessed - a rapid fire Drum and Bass excursion that will have the dance floor bumping. The addition of Jungle into the mix is not to say they've forgone their droning beginnings and that use of the drone is exactly what makes Blow Up stand out from the crowd and rock so hard. Electrosleep on the flip side shows Bowery Electric pushing the boundaries in a different direction. The use of dissonant piano structures add a 20th Century classical/post-Wagner twist to this slow burner. Consider this 12" a bold step forward and a taste of what's to come from Bowery Electric. I'll now return you to your regular programming - Lance... (Lurk On)

Yeah, the 12" is definately good. I'm pissed that I paid 10 bucks for it though, now that I know it's only 6 ppd. I recognized "blow up" immediately as a track they performed live in Toronto back in october (?). "Electro Sleep" is a moody, bassy track with a nice piano riff whose origin I can't place, anybody know what it is? -- B R E N D E N

The Bowery Electric 12" is well worth the effort expended to acquire it, IMO. The A-side is kind of relentlessly hypnotic, retaining a drone-like quality and propelling itself along on a bed of percussion. There's a mysterious, almost diabolical quality to the track that makes it hard to forget. The B-side incorporates (since someone asked) a sample from "Opening", a track on Philip Glass' 1982 _Glassworks_ album, and has a quiet, ethereal feel about it - one might even call it pretty. It might be heretical, but I played both sides of the aforementioned at the last Polar Bear Club. And of course heresy never goes out of style... / dave / np - The Hafler Trio, An Utterance of the Supreme Ventriloquist + the new atlantis monthly at Jitters' Twilight Lounge, Minneapolis + The POLAR BEAR CLUB monthly at The Loring Bar, Minneapolis
