hi all .. i'm looking for a good intro. to nurse with wound material. but considering i have to pay import prices ($18-$25) i have to choose carefully and wisely. i'm looking for a cd that seems to be a nice "sampler" of their sounds -- i realize that this may not be possible considering his albums are quite eclectic in sound. i'm not all that interested in the earlier abstract stuff. i have some really early coil -- and i don't think anything can beat that. here are a few choices i've been looking at .. any opinions? advice? -- sugarfish drink -- soliloquy for lilith -- thunder perfect mind -- rock and roll station thanks in advance! sean.

you'll not find a sampler of the NWW sound as there is no NWW sound. pretty much every release is drastically different. my favorites are Rock N' Roll Station which actually has some drum-machine beats in it (steven stapleton, the main force behind nww, has repeatedly said he is very bored of the 'beat' and hence many NWW albums have none) and a sucked orange, which is a lot of old outtakes with both funny and very innovative sounds. - wells oliver : s0ewoliv@titan.vcu.edu "all these things we'll one day swallow whole and fade out again and fade out again"

hi sean. all four of these are quite good -- but quite different. rock and roll station -- most fitting for this list i think.. that is, its the most "idm-ish" of the four. the only nurse with wound to really dive completely into beats... soliloquy for lilith -- the most ambient... weird tranced out sounds (absolutely no beats) produced i think from an instrument that steve stapleton (nww) made, and destroyed after the recording of the 6 tracks. i *really* enjoy falling asleep to this one, and it appeared on many top 10 lists on the ambient mailing list. quite nice. the other two are amazing as well, but im not awake enough to describe the range of sugarfishdrink, and i dont own thunder perfect mind and its been a few years since i have heard it. happy listening. -chris.

this was my first nww, remains my favorite (got as my wife has a great interest in lilith and such) the above is right on... when people make mention of ambient stuffs and refer to nww, they have to be talking about this... noise/minimal/ambient stuffs... a must have in my book, but its 2xcd and usually demands $30ish green ones which can be quite a lump of dough when you've no real concrete idea of what you're getting... if you do pick this one up, realize that this in *no* way really reflects the bulk of nww material... np: qbert/atrak buck tooth wizardz...
