Motion Control is Oddgeir Hvidsten from Bergen, Norway. He started his recording career in the ambient trio Neural Network, who released two albums on Origo Sound. Oddgeir Hvidsten and Lars Kristian Sande, 2/3 of Neural Network, started making more rhythm oriented material under the Motion Control name, and signed for the UK Universal Code label. Two EP's were released on Universal Code, and the tracks from these two EP's plus a third unreleased EP were collected on their first Beatservice album, the Digits CD (BSCD017).
Now trimmed down to key member Oddgeir Hvidsten, Motion Control takes a new turn on the new album "Groove Tool". While "Digits" was strictly underground minimalism aimed at the dancefloor, the style is now radically changed. On "Groove Tool", the Detroit-sound is mixed with impulses from french house, 70's disco and 80's electro. The album contains all the traditional goodies - like vocoder and sparse electro-groove on the title track, rhodes-piano and beautiful vocals on "Nightcap", wahwah-guitars on "L'estetique de bass", plus frogs and table tennis on "Glossy Rubber".
The limited twelve inch "Real Thing" (not included on the album!) has been very well received both abroad and in Norway, and "Groove Tool" is already expected to be the "next big thing" on the Norwegian house scene.
Released 27th march, availiable for pre-order at Beatservice Mail Order for 105 NOK (pre-order price) plus postage.
