zounds. if people are upset with the results of the idm poll, it is, at least in part, because the wonderful lads @ schematic got no recognition. just got metic, push button objects, jeswa, and takeshi in the post today. i've listened to PBO and jeswa 3 or 4 times. i haven't made it to metic and takeshi yet, but i will later. reviews forthcoming. Push Button Objects. Right of it reminds me of "Go Sheep" off Gescom's "Sounds..." 12. Someone said PBO is like autechre making hip hop tracks, and that's a nice analogy. there isn't as much fuzz or distortion as one would expect from booth and brown these days, but you can see their influance creep through. The songs are nice and danceable, but at times I found myself thinking everything could just move along already. That's my only critisizm; however, it's a minor one, and on the whole these tracks have some genuine laid back, fresh groove. Jeswa The whole AE/Skam/MAS "thing" is heard here again, but this record doesn't sound tired: something new is happening. And something new is *happening*. Loads more white noise and zany tones then on PBO, and just as funky. Blootshod especially is an especially delightful song: it really moves along, a nice sort of bassline carries the tune, and the line between percussion and melody is a bit unfocused -- an unexpected plus. This is simply a really good record, I've been playing it over and over; it's what's stopped me from hering Metic and Takeshi as of yet. Give this to you for the holidays, find room under the tree and all that. ta, andy -- a` :: contact(bobtj@wwa.com)co-conspirator(261) :: website(undergoing reconstruction)

I hear it! cspot posted a big response about the poll, but personally can't see why anyone could say anything about him... it was *US* who voted... and schematics stuff is *amazing*... first impressions of the push button wasn't overly impressive, but i've gotten into it quite a bit more... jeswa is... well... it gets quite a bit of play hear... might order a 2nd copy... metic same deal (that'd be third copy actually, as the 2nd is leaving me soon)... takeshi is pretty damn good too, but i can't seem to stop playing the other two =) Chris brap@sonic.net http://www.sonic.net/~brap/ blackdog, vvm, whitezone-l, slipdisc C.Gosselin, PO Box 8264, Santa Rosa, CA 95407
