Since we're deconstructing *what* IDM is, this may be way off the mark, but I've picked up a little gem in the dub/trance line - with a happy jolly jah-rasta style radiating red/green/gold cover featuring Aaafrika in egg-shape. Titled All The World In An Egg it claims to be "a budget priced introduction to Universal Egg" (dated 1996). Is this a label of note? It runs to 69 mins and features, amongst others, Robert Charlesworth, Jah Free, Bush Chemists, the Power Steppers, The Tassilli Players, the Trancemasters etc. I've recently reviewed (with a thumbs down) Bill Laswell's Dub Meltdown - this here compilation out-grooves it many times over. I * "Incomplete without surface noise" - Autechre

I have that comp. it was a nice comp of dub/ambient dub tracks from artists on Zion Train's Universal Egg label. I only have one other release on that label. It is Zion Train's 7 Wonders of the World In Dub. Again a great of electronic ambient dub. I haven't listened to either of those two releases lately. But i was really into them when i was big into the Beyond/Planet Dog/HIA sound a few years ago. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

Oops! Inore that. just remembered that the comp i was thinking about was called Archive 1: The Wibbly Wobbly World of Music comp. Zion Train's label is Wibbly Wobbly World of Music but i do think it is releated to Universal Egg in some way. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states
