Hi, This one is a question for the other Aussie listers: Has Come To Daddy gotten a local release yet?? Brock said:

I can't believe that you Yanks and Poms love this shite... it's absolutely our worst beer on the market here. In fact there is this joke that the big red F on the can stands for making love on the beach, because its like f@#king close to water. :) <Very tongue in cheek>... that's probably why you 'mericans like it. :) Whoops better get some more idm content into this post: Got the new SplitCD from Drop Beat containing tracks from David Kristian 12" and Downpour 12" and while i haven't really been on a big D'n'B jaunt since the release of Squarepusher's first album.. this really does it for me. Can anybody recommend stuff in a similar vein to both these artists available on cd that i can go and listen to thanks. Regards, John

Well John, The David Kristian part is easy. Just get anything else by him if you liked his half of the cd. The only problem is his style WILL get pretty old if you start listening to it a lot. I hope he's not a one trick pony, but all the other 12"s I've got of his all sound pretty much the same...neat midi drums with nice use of effects, atmospheric synth pads and a few weird noises, but that's about it. All his tracks don't sound too different from each other. As for the Downpour side, I'll need to give it a listen again to find some similar stuff...maybe witchman or so, but I really can't remember what it sounded like, except for the ultra distorted track. :-) More to follow! Word to the mothership, brock np: nothing again, because I'm really running out the door now!

Um, no. The only currently available David Kristian material that is similar to his Drop Beat single is The Clubfoot EP, a 12" on Discreet/Indiscreet from over a year ago, and some assorted compilation tracks. Upcoming d'n'b material from Mr. Kristian would be the National Kid 12" and Beneath the Valley of the Modular CD, also on D/I. Everything else he currently has available is quite different. Specifically, his Synesthesia CD from 1994/95 is excellent ambient-electronica, and his Cricklewood CD (on Alien8) is very, *very* minimal analogue stuff. I'll be putting an interview with David up on the feedback monitor website within the next week or so. http://www.interlog.com/~stained/feedback Greg

Well.. his new full length is quite Ambient and sounds nothing like his earlier D&B stuff. I agree, however, that his D&B stuff does start to bleed together. I liked most of the songs off of the Split ep, but it was enough. The full length "Cricklewood" is pretty decent, but it is, again, ambient... a large departure from him previous work.. .and we are expected to hear more in this style from him from now on (good or bad), from what I've read.

Downpour is much better than Witchman, IMO. Darker and more varied. But woah!!! if you don't get into distortion are darkness, stay away from Downpour. I've only heard about 4 or 5 tracks that I think stand up in Witchman's case. One thing I may recommend in a *sort-of* Downpour vein is Lowfish. I've been meaning to post a review of the Suction 12" but haven't had a chance. The Lowfish songs on this thing are key. The first song on this 12 is in contention for one of my top five tracks of the year (up there with the Ae Mag remix). Some good twists in their music. np: Move D - Kungststoff <thanks Jim B.. if you're still here> ----- FreyGuy <Everyday is FreyDay> Network & Lotus Notes Administrator Hansen Corporation / A Minebea Group Company *KevFrey@evansville.net WebSite: http://www.evansville.net/~kevfrey/
