Sorry, no enlightenment - just a counter-question: Is this the Richard Thomas who was with Dif Juz, 4AD in the 80's? I *

Well.. I've don't know about these releases, but all his compilation appearances that I've heard are usually rather abstract in nature. His tracks have a gritty, unproduced feel and are better described as elemental rather than "songs." Usually (but not always) beatless, but not ambient (but not always). Its sort of like soundtrack music (akin to early Skinny Puppy, but without so much melody). Sometimes quite abrasive, othertimes, sort of "tinkering." Its not really to my liking, in that, I like his sounds and some of his ideas, but have the nagging thought of "ok, now let's get on with it" when I try to hang in there and listen to a whole "track." Its really a matter of taste... as his music lacks a bit of structure (not necessarily predefined) to which I'm accustomed. My $.02 on RichThom Kev. np: As One - in with their arps ... ------ FreyGuy <Everyday is FreyDay> Network & Lotus Notes Administrator Hansen Corporation / A Minebea Group Company *KevFrey@evansville.net WebSite: http://www.evansville.net/~kevfrey/

what can anyone tell me about richard thomas? i just picked up his "Lo Recordings Sample Disc" yesterday and i must say i am very impressed. i liked his tracks on the second invisible soundtracks comp. on leaf, but "Sample" is a different beast altogether. some of the most original sketchings-out of something like free-jazz electronica-funk i've heard. plus there's a killer beatless ambient track to boot! this is one of those all around great twelves i have absolutely no problem recommending to a whole range of tastes, since it cuts across so many simultaneously. thanks, sc onnow: freeform : elastic speakers (thanks miles!)

I've been enjoying the new Richard Thomas 7" ep-"What my ears can see", Complex, structured, with some melody, but lots of jazz influences. This small peice of vinyl along with the great Green/Dred-Virtual Farmer CD are at the top of my current top ten. By the way- I saw a small reveiw in WIRE about a Wormhole vs Richard Thomas CD on Lo Records-I haven't seen it come stateside yet-anyone hear it-the reveiw was positive.
