I was perusing the musician's favorites (either all-time or recent) lists at http://www.furious.com/perfect/ (cruise around and you'll find) and noticed:
quoted 12 lines Colin Newman (Swim/Wire)> Colin Newman (Swim/Wire) > * Wallstar - Gurnigan > * Ed Rush/Nico - Kilimanjaro > * Shake - Electron Rider > * Acacia - Hate (Nico Remix) > * Paul W.Teebrooke - Nova - E.P. > * Klute - Leo 9/Blackout > * Nico (et. al) - The black ones > * Jeff Mills - The Other Day > * Bowery Electric - Beat > * Mimi Majick - Mimi's Utilities > * Various - Freezone 3
Not a bad list for a 44 year old geezer, eh? But in particular, is that really a Nico (of Ed Rush/Nico fame) remix of a Kelli Hand (Acacia) track I see? Brocccccckkkk ... Oh, also, RDJ's list and Mike P.'s list both contained
quoted 1 line * Return of the DJ's> * Return of the DJ's
which Richard described as "music from California ... it's avant-garde Hip-Hop, taking it to another extreme with a lot of excessive scratching and cutting up". Anyone know more about this thing? Sorta almost sounds like Kid Koala (who, along with Coldcut, were fucking amazing last Friday night in San Francisco). - Greg

bomb records, if i remember correctly. oh yeah, here it is: http://musiccentral.msn.com/MCGen/ReEntry?theurl=http%3A//musiccentral.msn.com/Album/Display/227627 music from california, of course, means invisibl skratch piklz! (qbert, mixmaster mike, etc...) see www.skratchpiklz.com. -- Jon Drukman jsd@gamespot.com SpotMedia Communications This calls for a very special blend of psychology and extreme violence.

"Return of the DJ" and "Return of the DJ II" are two double packs on Bomb Records out of San Francisco. Both are phenomenal. Production is heavy on the scratching, with each track feeling like a snippet of a hip hop mixtape, ala qbert or kid koala. -Sho -- sho@goonsquad.spies.com sho@macromedia.com

So where can we get our hands on this stuff? is it easily available through normal record stores or is it like 500 copies pressed kind of thing... -- Ben Coffer Hybrid Productions http://www.hybridgame.demon.co.uk/

speaking of san francisco check out the music listings at the fabric8 web site [www.fabric8.com] they have some very cool bay area homegrown funky label/artists with reviews [and its really a well made website too]. while you're there check out the Krazy Terbo Ted guy. hes a riot. his music is a wacked out pastiche of house/acid/techno/electro sounding weirdness. -jeffreyhttp://www.formstudio.com/thesesubjects/list.html

I'm sure he'd appreciate that! I thought it was funnier to see Ashley from Spring Heel Jack list Patsy Cline.

Both volumes of this are great. Didn't hear about it until they mentioned it. It's well worth your investment. Jason -- Perfect Sound Forever Warped perspectives on all types of music perfect-sound@furious.com http://www.furious.com/perfect
