Hello, I have heard a lot of great things about BISK, it is a Japanese band on SSR. It is suppose to be very similar to Autechre and the noisy side of Aphex Twin. I haven't seen anybody post anything about this yet. Can anybody comment on it? I will hopefully have it this Friday. B i l l S a m u e l s w l s @ U . A r i z o n a . um.. I remember someone wrote a message saying that he wanted to talk about music.. so, let's talk about Bisk. Anyone know more than the bare essentials about this guy? I have his "Time" CD, and it's quite good. Bisk appears to be a master of making music that is easy to make a picture of in your head.. good stuff. noah np: soul coughing, ruby vroom

one of the most-worth-talking-about of whom i have the least to say...he's naohiro fujikawa. he's released a few tracks on space teddy under his own name, and two albums (_time_ and _strange or funny ha-ha?_) on sub rosa as bisk. i also saw a listing this week for a split 12-inch featuring bisk and multiphonic ensemble (bisk on vinyl!!). finally, bisk is meant to have a track on the forthcoming sub rosa compilation, _water and architecture_, also featuring bundy brown, atom heart, and seefeel. in short, bisk makes some of the most advanced, sophisticated post-dance electronic music i've ever heard. a roiling stew of compositional reference points encompassing jazz, ambient, electro, hip-hop, drum'n'bass, post-classical/noise, even academic algorithmic metamusic...amazing stuff. sc

Bisk question... on "Ticklish Matters" I'm noticing an atypically complex panning as well as an almost 3-D sound quality. No, I'm not on drugs...The only music I recall having these qualities are the late eighties/early nineties Holophonic recordings ( with varied results...) and certain quadrophonic recordings. Anyone know how Bisk records? I'm guessing its all computer based? No, I'm not looking for a gear list... Peter np: that ... nxt: djs, turntablists and beatheads will *dig* the new Kid Koala...a double LP with a comic book as well! "Carpal Tunnel Syndrome"- very crafted and funky........and silly as shit. A landmark for the genre. Ninjas should turn the comic book into a movie. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I heard a Bisk track on peel the other night, and it sounded rather excellent... sort of loose, ecclectic, playful, psychedelicy, ambienty... picture flaming lips meeteing BOC (from what I remember... my mind may be playing tricks on me). Anyhow, the only info I can find is unhelpful (German I think... I'm no linguist), so can anyone tell me more? Bisk are from Japan I suppose and have a few CD's out on Sub Rosa in Belgium (haven't heard them though). http://www.subrosa.net (not sure about this) Marc -- Sent through GMX FreeMail - http://www.gmx.net --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Bisk is Naohiro Fujikawa (sp?) and all three of his full-length available outings are on SubRosa. They are Time, Strange or Funny Ha Ha and Ticklish Matters. I like the Strange/Funny the best of the lot, but I find that Time is pretty close stylistically. Ticklish Matters adds a bit of a jazz element...still (imo) an essential record, but I liked the earlier stuff better. There are also a handful of comp. apprearances around also. jeff Marc Richter wrote:
