Hello, I want to copy some of my music to DAT, but I don't have a DAT machine. However, in my department we have a DAT data tape machine for backing up the hard drive on the workstations. Is there anyway that this could be used for recording sound that could be played on a normal DAT machine? The workstations do have audio inputs. 'Help me, IDM you're my only hope.' Sorry for the cross-post..... Rich.

Interestingly enough, I have an opportunity to pick up one of these pretty cheap. I'd be very interested to know if it could be used this way (especially as I *very much* want to participate in the Scar Tissue remixing that Steve W. announced but have no other possible dat access at this time) Chris brap@sonic.net http://www.sonic.net/~brap/ Black Dog, Whitezone-L, Music Search Engine, etc. C.Gosselin, PO Box 8264, Santa Rosa, CA 95407

No. I have heard that Irix on SGI w/stations has a piece of software called DATMAN or something like that. Apparently you can read audio off DAT but I dunno about recording. As for PC forget it - Unless I'm wrong????? IDM content: Are there any new releases from Sun Electric. I haven't heard of anything from them this year. Oh well, it certainly doesn't help being stuck in Nigeria. I plan to deconstruct and remix some Fela Kuti trax if anyone is interested? kontrolman -- ------------------------------------------------------------------- Matthew D. The only thing they've released so far this year is the "Eya" single. I'm sure they'll update their site as soon as it's necessary: http://www.bbtt.com/sunelectric/ Fans of DR should check out the site even if they don't like Sun Electric. Steve Watkins (aka Scar Tissue) posted the following to a few newsgroups. I guess this may interest list members... if you haven't heard Scar Tissue, its not unlike Download or even Speedy J's public energy no. 1 and its *good* (at least i think so... saw them in San Francisco last year... appearently no one else felt this way, as Steve told me I was one like 3 people to buy shirts =) Anyways, appearently, you'll get a dat tape of samples and tracks... contact secant@ccnet.com (Mr Watkins email)... here's the post:
