tricky turns out to be a much better actor than a musician, in fact! i was pleasantly surprised. on now: "the fifth element" soundtrack -- Jon Drukman jsd@gamespot.com SpotMedia Communications How the drunk and the maimed both are dragged forward out of the arena like a boneless Christ, one man under each arm, feet dragging, eyes on the aether. So, who'd he play - Ruby? That was an amazing performance. I was too busy scanning the credits to see who played the General. Recognize him? I'll give you a hint - "Let me tell you about my mother!".

Well how is it? I thought it was pretty kick ass until the end credits. It must be a BITCH to do "music of the future", but I thought he nailed it on the second half of the Diva scene, which was one of the most amazing pieces of editing I've seen, with Leleru (or whatever her name is) kicking alien ass while the blue lady sings. It was so good I clapped. Must see again and again. Che

tricky was zorg's assistant (ie: the guy with the british accent).

brion james aka leon in blade runner... got that right off the bat.

yep, it's got that irritating end credit song at the start AND end of the CD, but a little judicious programming easily takes care of that. overall it's pretty cool. the ambient bits are really excellent - great synth sounds and fantastic production. some of the low rumbles make the walls shake. the first track, "mondoshawan," is pure abstract idm with lots of nice machine sounds and subdued drum beats. i kinda wish the rhythmic bits lasted longer, but this is all straight from the film so the cues are all on the short side. stuff that seemed longer on the screen (eg: the diva's dance) turns out to be 1:40 on disc! the one track i keep listening to is "ruby rap", which is very cheesy as a piece of audio, but was such a great moment in the film. it's basically the whole first section where Ruby ambushes Dallas and tries to interview him. i still can't believe they pulled that off. i've always liked eric serra's scores; even the james bond one which a lot of fans hated because it wasn't john barry-flavored orchestra.

i totally fucking loved this movie. i plan to go again and again, preferably while extremely high on dangerous and illegal drugs. -- Jon Drukman jsd@gamespot.com SpotMedia Communications How the drunk and the maimed both are dragged forward out of the arena like a boneless Christ, one man under each arm, feet dragging, eyes on the aether. Reportedly a self-released 12"... Same track on both sides. It's a very loose, live-sounding, somewhat rambling track which lasts roughly 15 mins. Interesting in a behind-the-scenes sort of way, but not essential. --Mark __ <http://www.xnet.com/~mkolmar/BurningRome> < MPEG & RA audio clips > Forthcoming CD SENSELESS on Mindfield Records MINDCD03 Cathartium 14 "Sleep's what we need. He's been smoking a lot of pot. I guess that has be considered... His label Island is owned by Polygram which is owned by Phillips which have money in the weaponindustry. Therefore this: During last years US tour he was staggering around on stage screaming "I don't sell records, I sell guns, I'm making money for you so you can kill a jew" - right before he released the bootleg 12" "Divine Comedy". He claims that his recordcompany were in alliance with Satan and that the (now resignated) PolyGram boss Eric Kronfeld was a nazi. The track is not on the new album btw. So there you go... This was posted on the Ghetto Youth ML (about Tricky & other Bristol bands) from http://smokin.muzic.com/htdb/news/daily.html#4 Controversial Tricky Cut Surfaces On Limited Edition Vinyl Trip-hoppist Tricky's controversial tune "Can't Freestyle," a hardly subtle attack at former Polygram Records President Eric Kronfeld, has finally found its way to shelves courtesy of a limited pressing funded by the UK DJ himself. With no words on the white cover and a plain white vinyl LP inside, "Can't Freestyle" was quietly released this week in a limited pressing of 5,000 units. The b-side is another previously unavailable Tricky cut, "Cash Flow." The song, bootlegged at one point as "Divine Comedy," attacks Polygram (parent company to Tricky's own Island label) and its racial policies, an attack brought on by comments Kronfeld made while testifying in a lawsuit filed by ultra-smooth crooner Dru Hill that questioned the company's policy of signing artists with criminal records. While on the stand, Kronfeld said, "If every African- American male in the United States was disqualified from pursuing a livelihood because of a prior criminal record, there would be no or virtually no African American employees in our society." Kronfeld was rightfully fired for his bonehead remarks, but not before Tricky got really pissed and wrote "Can't Freestyle." Island spokespeople say Tricky never let them know he intended to release the song, but hey, it's not their money. Tricky will next week launch a small promotional club tour of Florida and the Carolinas in anticipation of the June 2nd release of his new record, Angels With Dirty Faces. A full national tour is expected in July. Rumor has it that British rrrrriot lady PJ Harvey, who duets with Tricky on the record's first single, "Broken Homes," may hop the Atlantic for a few late-night TV (Letterman perhaps?) renditions of that song with the DJ himself. -Greg Heller --==v^v^v==-- Mathias Verraes ET.phone.home@ThePentagon.com Demi-Sick (live triphop & drum'n'bass) http://www.biosys.net/demisick demisick@biosys.net --==v^v^v==--
