Oooh yes. I got that six-track EP a while back and it's extremely good. Slow, analogue percussion (blip, ping, tssh) and gorgeous warm bass'n'chord combos. Like Morgan Geist crossed with Austin Bascom. Thumbs up.

Well, Plaid.

All the Likemind stuff is pretty amazing - very much in the UK listening take on the Detroit techno sound. And this is definitely some of the best examples around (along with early A.R.T. and B12 material). What was LM04 then? I must've missed that.

Being a lucky bastard, I was able to pick up LM01 and LM02 recently at a record fair. That was the first time I'd seen them - anyone know now many copies were pressed of each? I was also lucky enough to pick up Stasis' _Circuit Funk_ on Peacefrog, Stasis' _Point of No Return_ on B12 and a Cemtric 12" on B12. Total OD on smooth UK techno. More smooth UK techno:

I was ever-so slightly disappointed by it but solid is the word - one or two very good tracks, the rest meander slightly and never have enough bite. But I'm being picky here because I do love the IVM sound - I think the Wookey 12" co-written with IVM (on IVM's Tenth Planet label) is probably the best example of their sound. In a Derrick May/early Carl Craig vein but again with that noticeably UK listening-oriented take on the Detroit sound. A similar release is the Jaime Read 3xLP on Fragmented which is just out now. Also check out Claude Young's _Soft Thru_ LP on Elypsia which sees Claude kick back a bit for some chilled yet warm techno. There's one thumper but the rest come across a bit like Rob Hoods _Internal Empire_ but with a European polish and feel to it. Another thumbs up. || [CiM] || simonw@sol.ftp.com || -

LM04 has tracks from Nuron, Elegy and possibly another alias for the same people. Quite nice - one of them a bit more chunky than the usual Likemind. If they/he had only ever released the Tura track from LM03 on a one-sided 10" then their existence would be fully justified.

Quite - LM01 is the only one I'm missing. Is that for your smugness gauge?

Is the Point of No Return 12" the one with largely similar tracks to the Stasis half of that joint Redcell/Statis CD? The Bedouin Ascent EP on Rising High fits quite nicely into this discussion, I think - at least three of the five tracks, anyway. I can't remember the name right now. Oh yes - whoever mentioned Holger Hiller, I quite agree. Anyone who likes Mouse on Mars should investigate. Someone mentioned the Gerd LP - I got a promo of it for 1.99 at Vinyl Exchange, thinking I couldn't lose out too much at that price. When I listened, I thought I'd been ripped off. adam

heh, this is true! but much as i love that track, the tune i would pick for the 10" would have to be electric arc by nuron, from lm01. simple (and astonishingly cheaply recorded) but once you hear it none of that matters at all. although i would have trouble leaving 'artifax' by stasis off that 10" too - i'm sure both could be squeezed on!

HOW good is circuit funk? mnemonic image... i was heavily disappointed with the two lps pickton has brought out, as they can't hold a fucking candle to this early material..

I totally agree with Joe and Simon about the Rei Harakami 12" on Sublime. It's an essential release as are most of the Sublime releases.

I'm the proud owner of all four Likemind 12"s but it took several years to find them. As for how many were pressed, i don't know the exact number but i do know that whatever the number was it wasn't enough.

You can't go wrong with early Stasis or B12 label material. B12 is another label that needs to release their 12"s in greater numbers and repress their entire back catalog.

I really enjoy the recent IVM CD but i still believe that Insync has yet to do a track better than his Irdial track called The Storm. BTW: Are the Tenth Planet 12"s still in print? I'd love to get ahld of all of them.
