I think I sort of initiated a discussion about this in alt.music.techno. I could post a summary of all responses to my question which sounded just like yours. Interested ? -- Slava Borisov sborisov@cs.tufts.edu

Well, as for Gargantuan, you might be out of luck since it is discontinued since 1993. I know of two new Spooky EP respectively called "Clank" and "Stereo", both on the Generic Label. Ref: - Clank EP, Generic Recordings, genrd001,1995, A&M Records London - Stereo EP, Generic Recordings, genrd002, 1995, A&M Rec. London Very hard to find, but worth every second. I think 'Gargantuan' may be out of print. It's on Guerilla. Since that album, they've released three EP's ("Clank," "Stereo," "Shunt") and an album ('Found Sound') on Generic/A&M (UK). I should think that Ear/Rational Music (http://www.xmission.com/~ear/) can get some or all of these for you.

That is too weird. I was just on CDNOW this morning reading the exact same thing and wondering where the "BUY" button was... After extensive searching for gargantuan, I found nothing. I don't know if Found_sound is great - I haven't heard it yet. They play in Berlin tonight - maybe I know more tomorrow. Anyway, they have a few E.P.'s out as well. ANd since they're on a major label, I suppose that there are CD's floating around as well. have anice day. Thaddi, un flaneur electronique http://www.phreak.co.uk/haywire/dhr/sonicsubjunkies.html

Re: Spooky I highly recommend the "Found Sound" CD by Spooky. Fast paced rhythms for AFX fans, with some nice experimentation added in for accent. They also have a few E.P.'s (Spooky, Bamboo, Shunt, Fingerbobs, Stereo) that might be hard to find now. "Stereo" features some nice Orbitalesque sounds circa the "Brown" album, "Bamboo" features a great trancey ten minute version of "Little Bullet", and "Fingerbobs" has a nice remix from Dave Angel. All or worth checking out. Paul Rafanello intone@warwick.net

This track also appeared on excellent 1993 UK comp 'Trance Europe Express'. Spooky are Duncan Forbes and Charlie May. I don't know much of their work other than the singles 'Don't Panic', 'Little Bullet' and the track 'Persuasion' which is a very dark piece with Spooky providing minimalist electronic backing to Billy Ray Martin's very dark and erotic song. Sounds a bit like This Mortal Coil if your familiar with them? There first album was called 'Gargantuan'. One nitpick: Persuasion isn't by Billy Ray Martin (or Spooky, for that matter), it's a cover of a track originally by Throbbing Gristle. Greg

That's really interesting...Carl Craig's first single as 69 is called "Four Jazz Funk Classics", and I wouldn't bring it up except for the fact that comparison was drawn to Throbbing Gristle when Carl played live at the Cranbrook Museum late this summer. I guess it was a fairly abstract and experimental show, with 8 speakers placed around the room and a lot of really strange sounds. Learn something new every day.
