I concur. (Even if the original is essentially a demo.)

Is it such a rarity for IDMers to like NIN? (That's a legitimate question, I'm new around here. :-) NIN is part of what made me aware that this music was out there.

More so than Dead Souls? Sure it was a cover, but it was a _bad_ cover. -Matt +----------------------------------+ | Matt Woodard | | mtwoodard@hotmail.com | | http://rio.atlantic.net/~woodard | +----------------------------------+ ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

2 reasons why NIN isn't IDM: 1) IDM conveys a variety of emotions; NIN conveys "I hate myself & want to die while either degrading or being degraded". (Personally, I find this humorous, though ultimately quite tiresome, though I suppose that if you don't like yourself as much as I you might find comfort in someone else's self-loathing) 2) IDM doesn't sound like rot n' roll; NIN is rock tarted up with some electronics. I see no reason to discuss Mr.Reznor or his music on this list. Though it is ok to discuss some of his label signees, I also don't see any reason to discuss Mr.Reznor's motives for signing them. We've been through that already, and too many times. Che

I don't want to get into a NiN debate - I don't even know their music. However, are you saying that because a musician conveys only one type of emotion in their music they are automatically excluded from the idm club? bbn

Umm, I know perfectly well that NIN isn't IDM. I wondered if that many IDMers really found NIN distasteful, since I see jabs at Trent's work every time anything relating to Nothing is brought up.

That's not all NIN seems to convey... but I'll shut up now since I'm way off topic. :-)

Yup, but who ever claimed that it was anything else?

It seems to me that the Perfect Drug EP fits this list's topic reasonably. As for the rest, I agree. -Matt +----------------------------------+ | Matt Woodard | | mtwoodard@hotmail.com | | http://rio.atlantic.net/~woodard | +----------------------------------+ ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

NIN's music is not idm: that is a given. But it is unpreventable to keep his name off the list. Why? 2 reasons----1) Because his music is in the mainstream and is heard by millions of people, and 2) believe it or not, but a lot of people do feel that trent reznor does make good electronic music. I agree that nin talk should be kept at a bare minimum, but why do you people half to slander the music whenever it is brought up? Everything on the list can't be strictly idm; talk will go astray---it is natural in any forum. A hip hop discussion was brought up the other day, and no sooner than the discusion began, there was somebody saying "No hip hop talk in this here forum-----THIS IS IDM dammit!!". I feel that this a bunch of b.s. Are you saying that hip hop has no relation to idm?? Just because you may not find it interesting doesn't mean that other people don't also. YES, the main topic of discusion should be IDM, but it is only natural that its related genres are going to be discussed also(hip hop, electro, industrial, krautrock, house, ect..) I foresee a day when this forum is really "intelligent" and there will be know bickering and whining. Umm not really, but it would be nice. piece or peace
