Is anyone else out there desperately yearning for an instrumental/dub version of the latest Portishead album? I've like the group in the past, but Beth Gibbons' vocals/lyricwriting are getting seriously tired!! I find myself digging the instrumental breaks to no end, but every time she returns to moan about her life, I cringe. This is exactly the reason why my Smiths LPs have stayed on the shelf since I was eighteen. Guess I'll have to console myself with "Cowboys (Instrumental)." -------- Sigh (but I'm still not as depressed as some out there). -------- John Bush. BTW: I caught the first Dot Records artist to appear on MTV a week or so ago. Yes, the mighty Doktor Kosmos appeared (on M2, actually) with "Holiday," from his cheesier-than-thou =Cocktail= album (and no, it's not worth it; this makes Perrey-Kingsley, the Cardigans, Komeda -- even the stinkiest lounge compilation ever put out -- smell like pure roses).

Fuck yeah! I actually sorta liked the vocals on the first album, but I caught the video for "All Mine" this past weekend, and when the vocals kicked in, it was like "What the FUCK is up with this??" She sounds like she's got a mouth full of marbles or something during the verses, and that wailing "All Miiiiiiiine!!!!" bit goes into serious nails on the chalkboard territory. But the music sounds killa, like a James Bond theme on downers or something. Then again, I love the vocals on the Lamb record, so what do I know? Greg

Maybe I didn't make myself clear. I was wishing that Portishead would do what Primal Scream has already done (although =Vanishing Point= is pretty well untoppable in my opinion; it's still cool to do a dub version of the entire LP)... ----------- John Bush.
