Brown was definitely pushing boundaries at the time (obviously not now
though), and is still probably my favourite dance album. You're right, it's
unlikely we'll ever hear anything so listenable AND danceable.
I think you're a bit harsh on In Sides, mind. It's one of the most
ambitious albums I've heard, as though they're trying to create a sort of
classical techno thing. But it doesn't kick like Brown does....
