I don't know how much this qualifies for the idm list, but I just bought Happy End of the World, the new Pizzicato Five disk on a whim (it was on sale) expecting to not really like it, but I have to admit, this is one of the most "fun" albums of 1997. Imagine an anime version of That Girl, set it to D'n'B, and you're well on your way. It's unabashed pop music, but it's just so silly and happy (and cutting edge, in its own way) that it's won me over, big. And on a related note, I've been meaning to ask about this for a while now, but keep putting it off - I keep hearing that damn Apollo 440 song on a commercial station here in San Francisco (live 105), specifically the jungle mix of it, and it's really the only jungle/ Drum and bass song that I've ever known to get commercial airplay here in the states. Considering that the song is gimmicky at best, this kind of upsets me, but when you add to that the fact that this also means that Van Halen, of all decrepit, bloated rock acts, is now inextricably tied to the acceptance of jungle here in the States, well, it just gets a bit too much for me to bear. I was wondering what other IDMers thoughts on this matter were? And in case you haven't heard the song, in question, it's called "Ain't talking 'bout dub" and is essentially built around the guitar lick to Van Halen's "Ain't Talkin' 'bout love". shvatz
