Hey all, I'm sure you'll consider me a real boner for not already owning this, but is it worth $10+ just for the last 2 tracks AB 1? I've got Classics and I really dig AB and Isoprophlex, but I'm not too into shelling out $10 for 2 more Aphex trax. Thanx, Matt

hmmm...people would be willing to shell out $200 for AB2 just to have 2 more aphex tracks. You be the judge. Ab1 is the most important record in the IDM lexicon. period. In 20 minutes it defined our genre of music and laid out a challenge we've spent the last decade trying to live up to. I wonder what would have happened if Richard had never come along - thank christ he did. "there was a time when there was only richard." - autechre. ok, I guess that's enough of that... BTW, anyone know what issue of the NME that rephlex interview was in? I missed that one... Also, can someone who has the Monomorph albums on disturbance give a quick review - i'm thinking of ordering them... Also also, I am really excited about the club Shad and I are starting. We will be doing it the first Monday of every month starting November 3rd at the Global Village in Fullerton California. This place has fucking wicked sound, crazy ass lights, a nice dance floor with a circuit pattern on the floor and it's less than a year old so everything is new. Ticket price will be $5. Our first show will feature 2 live acts and three dj's which I hope to let you know about soon. I also have a VERY special suprise in the works for our first night. The musical focus will be the new skool elektronica sounds of labels such as Skam, Rephlex, Schematic, Isophlux, etc. with a bunch of other fucked up music thrown in for good mesure. We also plan to have a good time and smoke lots of cigarettes. If you are interested in DJing or performing please get in touch with me and we'll see about getting you on the bill of a future show. Cheers to those who have already written to give their support - this isn't my thing, it's OUR thing. And at our club EVERY night is ladies night. hooray. gonzi.

IDM 101: failed :)

Pah. Gimme "Bytes" any time. True greatness is measured in albums, not EPs. "Bytes" is still one of the very, very few albums in IDM that is an *album* and not just merely a collection of tracks. With "Bytes", all tracks have their own identity, yet there is an overall feel that connects all tracks. No experimenting for experiment's sake, no contests in trying to get the weirdest noises on vinyl, but an attention to detail in every track while maintaining an overall picture, *that* is an album! It's so much harder to make a great album than to make a great EP. BTW, for the IDM address record: my email address changed to o.koppius@fac.fbk.eur.nl Otto PS Max404's EP on Universal Language: miss at your peril!

I must disagree with both gonzi and you saying that I think Selected Ambient Works 85-92 is the most important record/album in the IDM lexicon. period. :) I do agree with you about albums, but it doesn't necassarily mean that the most important record must be one. __ __\ \ / /_\ \ \_____/ www.freq-div.home.ml.org
