Hi,
Here's a quickie review of the GITS PSX soundtrack that I picked up
yesterday. First things first--Track List

Ok, after listening to this cd about 5 times in its entirety, as well
as
background to whatever I'm busy with, i must say it's a very
impressive
disc. It's basically straight-up hard four-on-the-floor techno, which
is a huge split from the GITS movie soundtrack. Find a stereo with a
subwoofer for this one kids :) I've not played the game yet, and
chances are will wait for the domestic release of it (anyways I'm
currently occupied with FFVII). The tracks are all trancy and rely on
repetition, which makes for good video game music i guess.
The art and design for the disc was done with input from Masamune
Shirow, and makes for a great looking package (it is designed
backwards,
with the cover art where the back of the cd is and the track listing
on
what should be the front cover).
So what are the real attention-getters? I lean towards the first half
of the disc, which is the most frenetic the music gets. The latter
half
is good as well, but seems to be a bit more relaxed and ambient.
Interesting notes on this release---it seems that Sony Music Japan is
making this part of a music-push, or "Electronic Frontline---The Sony
Music Techno Campaign." It looks like this release is part of a
series
of compilations/releases that are basically all techno/electronic.
I'm
pretty dumb on the Japanese language so if anyone can fill me in on
what
this is all about let me know.
All in all, a real hit. I'll give it 8/10, since techno is something
I
don't usually listen to, but this may start a little bit of a
turnaround
for me :)
