In return for one of my demo tapes I got a demo by Pacman. Since I promised a review, here it is... REVIEW: Pacman - Advanced Pac-man No. 1 Behind the simple yet rather nice looking cover of this tape I found a casette containing thirteen songs. What immediately struck me when I started listening to the first track "Ghost house" was that it sounds like something old by Mike Paradinas. And this feeling didn't disappear as I listened to some more songs - to me the sound and song structure is definitely inspired by u-ziq. The tracks on the tape show a lot of potential. There is always something unpredictable going on. The drawback of this is that some tracks sound a little bit unfocused and perhaps too strange for my taste. There are some very good tracks on this demo. "Crystal shatterer" - is that the old Aphex Twin I detect?, "Jettison" - a rhythmic, inspiring track, and "Pacman's song" - a cool computer game soundtrack with nice drum programming. Though the drill'n'bass of the "Maxx" remix wasn't that inspiring to me, I would love to hear Pacman do more rhythmic stuff a la "Jettison". / Mattias -- Mattias Svanstrom | Email: mattias@isy.liu.se Division of Data Transmission | Phone: (+46) 13 28 1350 Department of Electrical Engineering | Fax: (+46) 13 28 1339 Linkoping University, Sweden |
