Subject: that morgan review
I don't have the time to devote proper attention
to the full review that this release deserves but
the best techno record I've bought in several
weeks has got to be Morgan Giest's new 12" on
Clear (CLR 433). A limited edition 12" (it says
"only 1500") to preview the upcoming LP called
_The_Driving_Memoirs_. The 12" is a strong
genre-bending great 2-tracker.
One track is more of a midtempo funky funk-based
funked out electronic track. Did I mention it was
funky? Slippery. An effective style departure
from his work on Environ and Metamorphic, perhaps
more use of a sampler (? did i detect a chunk of
beat from jive track's "122 bpm"? -- A BOMB
TRACK). Flip it over for more of what you'd
expect if you extrapolate Morgan's melodic techno
material into whole new 'song' structures, lots of
emotion here.
This is serious quality work for electronic music
lovers, accomplished in tightness, polish,
attention to every sound, and a departure in style
to what's he has done previously. Nothing but
quality here, I can't wait for the LP.
peace.
