Ok, so I'm perpetually behind everyone else on the list in picking these things up, but I'll be damned if Cichlisuite isn't some of the best work I've heard from Ae since Amber or maybe even Incunabula. I heard some of you mention that it sounded like generic, formulaic Ae, but I can't really see it. Yes, there ARE some formulaic elements, but the whole effort sounds tuneful, and fresh. Maybe I'll change my mind after more listens, but I really like this thing.... As always, feel free to flame me for my opinion =) --Matt

I've got to agree with ReZOn8oR. SicklySweet (clever name, huh?) is one Autechre's best. It's simultaneously accessible and envelope-pushing (their releases since Incunabula have been increasingly inacessible). Full review when I've better digested it. My dillemma is this: I've been holding out on Envane, Chiastic Slide, & Cichlisuite in hopes of a 2xCD release on WaxTrax similar to Tri Repetae. Any word of this happening? If it doesn't happen, I figure Ae stuff will still be available from Warp. It's excrutiating, but at least I've got my roommate hooked on Ae now, so I can borrow/tape his CDs til I can buy my own. :) It also frees up some $ to track down remixes & Gescom stuff... Che

Yes, but what darn speed do you play it at? I get infuriated when artists don't put the rpm on...it puts me off playing the thing. -- Ben Coffer Hybrid Productions http://www.hybridgame.demon.co.uk/

Hmm. The speed unlabeled records should play at always seems fairly obvious to me. Maybe I'm weird. I know others have complained about this but for some reason I've never had a problem with this. It sometimes takes me 3-4 times of going back and forth between 33 and 45 rpm though. Of course maybe I've been wrong and the speed I like the best is the wrong speed. Heh. Tony

300 rpm.
