ugh, naughty boys 83, blech! I recommend: YMO (78) Logic System ('81) (not really YMO, but a proj called Logic System) Ryuichi Sakamoto - "1000 Knives of..." (78, rereleased on horizon 82) "Technodelic" (81) (hard to find ymo, but really worth it!) B-2 Unit by Ryuichi (81) secondary: BGM (82?) solid state survivor (79?) left handed dream - sakamoto futurismo ? (86) - sakamoto tokyo orch playing sakamoto box cd 5" and 3" (if you merry xmas mr lawrence and last emperor)

i only read the archive sometimes, but I think promos in people sig files should be enough, I agree with the general crit of too much self-promo is well, uh, poor character

some of those locals are just down at the bar after working on their own tracks, maybe their 80th even

if they were smart they would just ignore the noise

there is the real vote, how many copies of one's music survives. easy come easy go applies well to bad data I am hanging on to at least one fleshpile mp3 and probably returning to check out more perhaps.. i certainly can't forget that name, yeesh, it works from a promotional standpoint

Yeah, I shouldn't really recommend that one to the IDM community, though it's a personal favorite. Remember, this is coming from a man who owns all three volumes of "Bubblegum Classics" -- and they get a lot more play than EP7, especially on sunny days... ;) .John. Beg to differ...the track "Expecting Rivers" may well be worth the price. It ISN'T their best, though.

I'll back you up on all of those...especially "Technodelic". What you're missing, though, is the 1993 *reunion* lp, "Technodon".

"Multiplies" should have been on this list if BGM is. The MAJOR omission there though is most definitely Haruomi Hosono's solo work. If you like Technodon, Hosono's "Philharmony" is a must. A few steps away from the is his "SFX" lp - and I know the CD was repressed with the stellar "Globule" 12" tracks (most of them) on it...dunno about the vinyl. There are also several other Sakamoto releases that are quite worth pursuing (again...I'm talking about the earlier, more YMO flavored work for all of the solo stuffs) which never made US release. A comp. called "Soundbytes" gives you a taste of a handful of these.
