Okay, here's the deal folks:
Self promotion, in moderation, is fine. Weekly,
monthly, etc, mailings....not fine. If you feel
you need to do it every once in a while, please
back it up with some useful reviews, comments,
news, etc. In most cases, a few simple lines in
your sig or whatnot will suffice, and it will
demonstrate to your possible listeners that you
have at least some semblance of tact and respect
for the list and its readers.
I for one, am much more apt to listen to someone's
tracks if they are quiet and simply a little less
aggressive about "promoting" their tracks. this
isn't the major label music industry folks, it's
a relatively small mailing list, and although we
care about what's going on with indie artists,
spamming the idm list with posts is not going to
get you famous.
