Some advice: a) School may or may not be the place, but keep learning if you want to get a job where you don't have to wear a name tag or special shoes. Finish high school if you haven't. A GED isn't the same. b) You probably have no idea what you really want to do with your life. Don't worry about it. Hardly anyone does. Expect major shifts in direction over the next few years. If you don't know where to begin, start with school, apprenticeship, internship or the military. c) If you want to do music, start now and pursue it with all the energy you can find. But: see a), above. You'll need luxuries like gear, food, clothing and shelter. d) "There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, nor how valuable it is, nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep yourself open and aware directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open...." -- Martha Graham to Agnes de Mille, _Martha: The Life and Work of Martha Graham_, as quoted by George Carlin in _Brain Droppings_. e) Channel your aggression into something positive. This is very important, particularly if you have a lot of aggression. One fuckup can stick with you for a long time. --Mark

to add to the rest: don't give up creating music! also, don't think about what other people are going to think about what YOU are creating... do it for YOURSELF! don't think about getting signed or releasing a 12" on your own label... don't sit there and think, 'hmmmm, I think all the people on IDM would like this sort of sound, so I'm gonna try that', etc.... just do what you feel, and don't try to impress anyone but yourself. remember... it's all a learning experience! (not only in music, but life in general) you are young enough to get back into school... do that! if you wait, you'll feel worse than you do now. you don't want to settle for a GED. in ending, a good education, good self esteem; self-worth, are very important... more than money and success. start slowly and don't give up. (my 2-cents)
