no big up to mixmaster morris in i.d. for naming ian obrien as one of the "most controversial artists in the uk", nice to see he is remixing such cutting edge luminaries as lisa stansfield - what sayeth you now? on the subject of "come to daddy", i notice rich has been listening to that boards of canada demo they sent rephlex 2 years ago, "iz-us" is a touch too close for comfort Written by Wed, 3 Sep 1997 13:48:06 -0400 (EDT)

I'm no Morris but 'Desert Scores' is currently my top contender for album of the year. Stuart probably thinks it's an empty collection of UR and Black Dog ripoffs. I think that while it's clear he owes quite a bit to his influences stylistically (just as *they* owe quite a bit to *theirs*), he's also making terrific music with a lot of heart and personality - like "Dayride," the best 6/8 techno track since "Le Soleil et la Mer" and the most jaw-dropping "ohmygodthisistheSHIT" track I've heard since I don't know what. Frankly, if an individual can make records this great, whatever mercenary remix work he does on the side to pay the rent is irrelevant to me.
